My first blog hopefully was sucked into The Black Blog Hole; altho I know it was read by one kind person who promptly told me to start searching the Newbie blogs for insight. Hmmm...here is a 2nd attempt. Be kind!!
For me home staging is a great blend of creativity and problem solving. After 26 years of cardiology nursing, I appreciate the freedom that staging brings; not always having a protocol that I must follow. But the home staging challenge that has me bamboozled is the listing photographs.
I'm not blaming the real estate agents. Who is requiring them to take training in real estate photography? Why should agents pay for professional photographers BEFORE closing and their commission is received? Sometimes the closing day never comes, and no commission is received! Realtors are sharing their commission with another agent and sometimes with a broker. Why should they split their commission yet again to pay for a photographer?
The seller, on the other hand, rightfully believes that a 5-6% commission should darn well pay for some decent listing photographs that grab buyers' attention. Usually a seller does not even preview their pictures!
SO WHO IS RESPONSIBLE for taking these crucial listing photographs?? There is only one chance at a first impression. If the pictures posted on the web and in local print advertising are poor, we all lose. The stager loses a shot at their work being portrayed in positive and effective marketing, the realtor loses a shot at drawing buyers in before a price reduction and the seller loses when there aren't any showings.
Sometimes I think Crate & Barrel spends more time photographing a toaster for their catalog layout than the time spent photographing a seller's biggest asset!
Staged First Impressions offers staged photography services, including featured tours.
