Made you look, right? There are so many things that are important to your blog becoming a success. And you want to get readership, right? Do you write to those members on Active Rain? Try to get popular and to climb the ranks on AR? Or do you write to the consumer. Just some things to ponder.
A catchy title is important. What if the blog is about boring details relating to the mortgage industry. Get creative from time to time. Here is an example of being creative in a blog.Mortgages : How would you like your mortgage served to you? Here is one that I thought had a great title with a great picture. But someone deleted my picture because of a complaint. Your BLOG is a piece of Meat, USDA prime I had a picture of a naked woman with a piece of meat over her breasts.
Would I do this all of the time if writing mortgage related blogs? No… why not? Because you also want key words in your title. Google searches the first 4 words in your title. So if you had a very catchy title, sure you will get maybe more comments from your fellow ‘Rainers’, but will you get searched more out in cyberworld? Possibly not....
Sometimes getting to the top in regards to blogging and high ranking when it comes to being searched can be a struggle. It can also be tedious work. I have learned so much from so many here on AR when it comes to blogging and being searched. But even though several seem to think they know what it takes to get to the top, I have found this not always to be the case. It's like credit, even the experts don't even know. It sometimes comes down to trial and error. Overall, it's definitely a learning process 24/7.
I started blogging on October 5th, 2006. About 3 months ago, for 2 months in a row, I was writing about 10 blogs a week and I was really trying to get to the top. Think that if I kept writing, I would climb the search ranks. In the last 2 months, I have scaled down 110%. As you can see below, I only wrote 6 blogs last month and9 blogs the month before. What's funny is that I have seen more activity when it has come to receiving e-mails from my blogging. I am not an expert in this, but I wonder if the search engines didn't rank me as high or pick me up because I was writing something everyday. This is just food for thought. What say thee... Always looking for feedback.

Jeff, you write such interesting posts and who can figure out Google, but if it works and it does, enjoy not doing so many.
Jeff, You make a great point about the good search engine. I wonder if you post to much does it some how cancel the others out..
Missy....well, thank you very much. You also write some interesting and meaningful posts.
In regards to trying to figure Google out? I stopped a while back, hence why I decided to write about this. And yes, if it works, run with it.
Matt..... thanks.... I would love to hear from those that know a little something about SEO and if this might be some what true. I guess time will tell.
Good information Jeff, especially the information about Google and the title search. Good things to know for the next blog.
Anything in life that's worth having will require a lot of work and determination. That will never change. Good info! And a catchy title is definitely a must! Sometimes I can't come up with anything good, but sometimes I save a draft and ponder the title for a long time before posting.
I've never written that much at all...I'd be lucky to pull off 10 a month at times.
Jeff,
You make some good points here! I should know but I don't know a thing about SEO...I blog for all the reasons you mentioned plus about 2 dozen more!
SEO isn't as important to me as it is to realty agents and mortgage people who generally cover larger areas and engage in legal referrals, and receive internet inquiries! Title insurance, of all the professional real estate entities, is the 'most local'! JMHO, Thanks, Fran
Jeff I know you have worked extremely hard all these months and all I can imagine is whatever brought the emails and google love must have been the content. As you know Content is King. I wonder if it is not just quantity but quality that is king.
Jeff...I have definately noticed a decline in ranking i the past few weeks....Actually since the"shake up" I wonder if AR has fallen out of favor somehow?
Jeff,
I'm just as baffled by the search engines. I stopped blogging a few weeks ago and thought I'd fall right off the first page for Google. I checked it the other day and I was actually in 8th place. Mind you, I've owned the #10 spot for months now, but never moved higher, no matter how much I blogged. It was great to take a break from it all.
You do write good stuff, so don't stop. I, for one, really enjoy it.
Jeff, Great information. I didn't know about the first 4 words of the title. Thanks.
Christopher..... it's great information to know. I have read so many posts that talk about this and that. I think the two main ingredients, just my opinion, but would be the first 4 words of the title and key words...both in the title and in the blog.
Lisa..... sure, if you don't put a lot of effort and determination into something, your results will usually be lacking some. Pondering on a title? In my honest opinion, I think many focus on a catchy title to try to get more readership here on AR, not realizing that it could hurt them because their title isn't being searched properly.
Monika..... I have been away from AR for the most part in the last several months, one reason why I haven't even read your posts. But there is nothing wrong with just writing 10 a month. It all depends on what you get out of them, the time in which you have available to write them, and just the basic principal that you enjoy writing them.
Fran.... true, SEO might not be important to some, depending on what they are trying to accomplish. But for the majority, it's the best way to get searched and recognized. Something I need to study up on. But what's funny is that I have been paying particularly to my titles and some key words and that's been working pretty good for me.
Jay..... yes, content is king.... but I do think the title helps a lot, not sure of the percentage. And key words... not sure if you did some sort of test on just great content but no key words or no key words in your title, what would happen. But I would bet that the blog with key words and a title with key words will get better action and responses. thanks for the kind words in regards to content.
Joan..... not sure about this. What's funny and sad is that I have no clue about my ranking. But I do know that I am increasingly getting more e-mails of lately and this was even after the shake up. I think key words in the title is ....'key'... l ;o)
Andrew..... hhhmmm someone else that has experienced a little of what I have. Now, my is based on responses that I am receiving. After all of these months, I am still not set up in finding my rankings and google alerts. I need to get out of the dark ages some. And thanks for the compliments.
Roberta..... my pleasure.... just some info that I have read from some other members that have brought this up. thank you for stopping by.
Jeff,
Very good as Usual, and I noticed you really scaled back. I am glad to see you still wiriting :0)
