Elimination of the
Marlton (70-73) Circle (Evesham Township, Burlington County) is tentatively set to begin in October, 2007 [Update: New estimates are for Spring 2008]. It will depend, in part, on when the nearby Berlin Circle (Berlin Township, Camden County), located further south on Route 73 and currently under construction, will be completed.
The Marlton Circle Elimination is in its Final Design phase. Construction is estimated to cost $30 million and if it [had begun by] October 2007 [would have been] completed by Fall 2009. According to a NJ Department of Transportation (
NJDOT) spokesman, the elimination of the Marlton Circle is one of NJDOT's top priorities.
Elimination of the Marlton Circle will hopefully resolve the following problems:
•
Congestion. It takes seven to ten minutes to travel through the circle.
•
Accidents. According to 2004 NJDOT Traffic Impact Team Analysis, there were 110 crashes at this location making it the #2 site for crashes in NJ.
•
The Future. The average daily trips through the circle are expected to grow to 110,000 in 2027 from 80,000 today.

NOTE: This has been updated to reflect more recent news and discussions going on within Evesham Township and with NJDOT.
I am nervous and excited about the change. I have had one minor accident at the circle. Something needed to be done and hopefully it is an answer for the area. Thanks for posting, I was wondering when it would begin.
Elise Sharpless
I agree with Elise about being nervous and excited. I Dread driving through that area unless i am in the right hand lane going toward 73 north. If I have to cross to get to the other side of 70 i almost always have a panic attack. The thought of trying to get through it with construction is even more mind boggling but I think in the end it will be great for the area and a much easier ride.
