Protect YOUR Laptop Against Theft or Loss

I was watching the news this morning and I saw an interesting story.  The story reported that a laptop is lost or stolen every 12 seconds according to statistics from the FBI.   Once a laptop is gone, FBI statistics state there is only a 3% chance of recovery. 

If you are like me, you depend on the information on your laptop.  Of course we all know that we should back up important documents which are housed on our laptops....but how many people really do??  That's a story for another day. 

But what if your laptop is lost or stolen?  Entrepreneur Carrie Hafeman has created a program that may help.  The program is called The Retriever.   Once the program is activated, the laptop provides information  that identifies its owner and contact information even before the operating system is loaded.  If the laptop finds and internet connection, The Retriever locates the laptops location on a Google map for the owner.   Once found, the owner can lock down the computers hard drive by sending a code to the computer via the internet.   A new feature allows the owner to send a message to the computer thief or to play a message when the computer is turned on.  Imagine your computer saying "HELLLLLLLLLLP, Somebody save me!!!!".

This program is worth a look at the least.  I am sure there are similar products which are available.   A 90 day free  trial version is available at www.frontdoorsoftware.com  $29.95 buys you a license for three years.  Ten bucks a year is pretty cheap insurance I think.
