Terrapin Aware-Protecting Wildlife at the Jersey Shore!

From now until August, please observe Terrapin Crossing signs along 7 Bridges Road (AKA Great Bay Boulevard) in Tuckerton and Radio Road in Little Egg Harbor.

The Diamondback Terrapin is found in salt marshes and tidal creeks feeding on crabs, worms, small fish and insects. Female diamondback terrapins come up to the roadside in early summer to lay eggs above the high tide line.

'Be Terrapin Aware' slow down on roads around our coastal salt marshes and look out for the little fellows. If you discover one in the road, carefully pick it up by its shell and put it out of harms way in the brush on the roadside. Make sure you move it in the direction it was headed.
