Daryl Secor PhotoThe Mahwah Schools Foundation has proudly chosen Darryl Secor as the 9th Annual Golf Honoree. As owner and operator of Secor Farms, Mr. Secor runs a business with deep roots in Mahwah. Started by his great grandfather, the original location consisted of 50 acres of land in Upper Saddle River purchased when the family moved from Paterson back in the 1930's. In 1973, the family expanded into the neighboring community of Mahwah. The farm has become a well known landmark which has been passed down through three generations of Secors, who have all been involved in, and shown support for, their communities.

The longevity of this farm can be attributed to its ability to adapt to agricultural trends and keep upwith the changing times. Starting as a genera lfarm in Paterson, Secor Farms has gone through many phases making the transformation into a local fruit and vegetable-producing farm in the30's to the current store and greenhouse farming property in 1973. Present times reflect a seasonal business rich in diversity, ranging from greenhouse perennials, to spring planting and locally grown summer produce, to pumpkins and hayrides in the fall, and Christmas trees and wreaths in the winter. From Paterson, to a roadside produce stand on Route 17 in Upper Saddle River, to the Mahwah farm and produce stand on Airmont Avenue, the business has remained a prominent feature in local history. More importantly, the family is well known for their philanthropy.

Darryl Secor, married father of three, and prominent citizen of Mahwah, has continued his family's legacy of community involvement. Today, the Secors support the Mahwah Education Association by donating goods for their annual plant and flower fundraising sale. They also support Mahwah's public schools by providing for science days, walk-a-thons, homecoming and other events. In addition, their generosity extends to the Girl Scout's town-wide "Planting" and, last but not least, they support all the MSF fundraisers through sponsorships and the donation of many goods and services. Darryl and his family participate in many of these events by volunteering their time and through all of these varied efforts, they help make Mahwah a better place to live. It is with great pleasure that the Mahwah Schools Foundation recognizes Darryl Secor for his many contributions and unwavering support of Mahwah as a community.

I used to know Darryl and his brother Glen from our high school days at Northern Highlands.  Having moved to Allendale in 1965 I remember the Route 17 market stand on the southbound side with the gas station and the bus stop to the city.  All the Secors were great people and it was sad to see the farming area consolidated into what is left in Mahwah.  I wish Darryl and his family well! It is a nice honor for him.

Hey James!

Thanks for reading and for your comments. I will tell Darryl that we know each other. My daughter has played soccer with two of his kids for a couple of years ( one is now in college ). Jacki ( his wife ) and I are friends, too. They are terrific, they do so much for the area ( particularly when it comes to farming and eco issues --- Darryl is the "Man" ) and everything the family does the the schools in town...just terrific people.
