Marlboro NJ – School Election on September 29, 2009

The public question that voters will decide on Tuesday September 29, 2009 in Marlboro Township, NJ is a bond proposal. Here is the text of the proposal:

The Board of Education of the Township of Marlboro in the County of Monmouth, New Jersey is authorized: (a) to provide for the construction of an addition at Defino Central Elementary School, including acquisition and installation of furnishings and equipment and site work; (b) to appropriate therefore $2,522,062, funded in part by a $480,480 grant from the State of New Jersey; and (c) to issue bonds in the amount of $2,041,582 to finance the school district's local share of the project.

The final eligible costs of the project approved by the Commissioner of Education are $1,201,200. The proposed project included $-0- for school facility construction elements in addition to the facilities efficiency standards developed by the Commissioner of Education or not otherwise eligible for State support pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:7G-5(g).

According to Marlboro Schools Superintendent Dr. David Abbott, the purpose of this referendum is to build six new classrooms at Defino Central Elementary School to replace the trailers behind Defino. Dr. Abbot says that the trailers were erected 50 years ago, are now in very poor condition, and in need of interior and exterior repair. Furthermore, Dr. Abbott states that passing this referendum will not increase the property taxes of Marlboro residents. To read Dr. Abbott's letter to the editor of the News Transcript, click here.
