Consumer Safety Tips - KEEP YOUR SUMMER SAFE!

Following are some good tips for keeping your family - especially your children -safe and happy this summer! These tips are culled from various sources on the internet and from the NJDCF. I thought they were good reminders to be shared.

NEVER, EVER LEAVE CHILDREN UNATTENDED IN A CAR

The temperature in a car can reach dangerous levels quite quickly in the summer - even in moderate weather with the windows slightly down. DON'T TAKE A CHANCE WITH YOUR CHILD'S LIFE!!! Kids can suffer from heat stroke causing brain injury and sometimes death.

Leaving the air conditioner on still doesn't make your child safe. A child could put the car in drive, get caught in a closing power window, or even be abducted.

TIPS to Keep Kids safe in and around cars:

*NEVER leave a child unattended in a car. Not even for a minute. Just don't do it.

*Always lock your car and secure the keys in a location where your children cannot get to them.

* Warn your children about the dangers of playing in and around cars.

* Install a trunk release mechanism so that kids can't get trapped inside the trunk.

* Get your kids out of the car first when returning from running errands or doing grocery shopping. Worry about unloading the groceries and other items after the children are safe inside the home.
