Cold Weather & Home Fire Risks!

Alot of us are very happy that the hot weather appears to be gone - but it is now time to focus on the home fire risks that we face!

Have a fireplace? Contact a local chimney sweep and get that creosote build-up removed! Also, your furry and feathered friends may have thought your chimney was the best place to build a nest! A Chimney Sweep Will Evict Them!

While having a dryer in your home is a great time-saver, it also is a fire risk! Go to your local hardward store and obtain a long wire brush that you can use to clean out the lint build-up in your dryer vent - inside & outside vents!

Use oil to heat your home? If you didn't have your furnace cleaned-out in the spring, contact your oil supplier and ask them to take care of that before you turn that thermostat UP!

Gas take care of your central heating? You too need to replace those filters in your vents! Your local hardware store should have them in stock, and you can easily do this yourself! If you are uncomfortable checking out your gas heater, contact your service provider and ask them to take care of this for you!

If you didn't replace those batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when you changed the clocks in the spring - replace them NOW! You won't smell the smoke until it's too late - Don't take the risk! Just because your detectors are electrically connected, your safety is worth the few dollars to purchase battery operated types to back them up - just in case of a power outtage!

And if you have a lawn sprinkler system - time to get those lines drained and turn off the water!

If you use kerosene heaters, follow ALL the warning instructions! Those systems do suck in animal fur that will clog up the vents!

GET PREPARED! I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOUR HOUSE IN THE NEWS!
