Pascack Valley Real Estate>>How To Keep Your Home Stocked For The Unexpected

This morning we awoke to the effects of a Noreaster that took it's best shot during the night. It was the middle of the night when we noticed the electricity had gone out. "Oh no" I thought to myself. But fell back to sleep since there was clearly nothing I could do about it. Upon getting out of bed, I slowly became aware of all of the simple things we take for granted in our day to day life. In an effort to help those we serve, the following is our list on How To Keep Your Home Stocked For The Unexpected.

  • Battery operated clock or watch should be kept on a nightstand
  • Battery operated flashlight on a night stand as well
  • A Coffee maker that can be used on the stove top
  • Matches to start electrically ignited Stoves
  • A portable radio that uses batteries so you can hear the news reports
  • Batteries in all sizes for flashlights, etc.
  • Keep cellphones charged at all times in the event of such emergencies
  • Candles should be kept on hand
  • Dried foods that can be consumed so that you don't have to keep opening the refrigerator
  • Bottled Water should be kept on hand at all times for emergencies

In the event that you lose heat like we did, it's great if you have a Fireplace. We're fortunate enough to have a Gas Fireplace that kept us warm until the electricity was restored. Some people will keep generators on hand but these simple items are How To Keep Your Home Stocked For The Unexpected.
