Are You Tough Enough To Wear Pink?

It's pink here in Las Cruces. No matter where you look, it's pink. Pink flags are flying along University Avenue and on the streets of NMSU, retailers and other businesses have gussied up their windows as well. Everywhere you go, people are sporting pink shirts, socks, tennis shoes and, in some cases, bright pink hair.

We take our fight against breast cancer VERY seriously.

I've blogged about it before but Las Cruces' campaign has been ranked number 1 in the world for the last two years. Started four years ago, the campaign has 'pinked' out not just football games but volleyball, basket ball and other sporting events on campus and around town.

An important partner in the Tough Enough campaign is Cowboys for Cancer Research of New Mexico. They started back in 1981 and have been going strong ever since. The events they host grow every year, as does the money they raise through team roping competitions and their wrap up event - a big dinner, auction and dance for the community.

Tomorrow night is the TETWP annual football game where the NMSU Aggies take on our in state rival, the UNM Lobos. It's going to be an interesting game considering both teams are winless this year. The Aggies are 0-4, the Lobos are 0-5. I guess one way to look at it is that at least one of us will have a win!

I do want to end with this: I went to the TETWP Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Pan American Center. The fashion shows' models are cancer survivors and wow, did they have fun strutting their stuff and showing off the latest fashions. You can stop by the photo gallery at the LC Sun News to see just how much fun we had.

My hat is off to anyone who has had to go through cancer treatments, and to their families and loved ones. Cancer has touched all of us, including me. I'll be wearing my pink shirt in honor...and memory of so many tomorrow night.
