First Time Home Buyers Rebate Program Update

As you are likely aware, Finance Minister Graham Steele introduced the government's 2010-11 budget in the House of Assembly on Tuesday, April 6, 2010

The HST rate increase will affect those purchasing new homes. The HST rate increase will generally apply to a new home sale in Nova Scotia if both ownership and possession of the property are transferred to the purchaser on or after July 1, 2010.

As of July 1, 2010, the First-Time Home Buyers Rebate Program will be administered by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. This is an existing program that to date has been administered by the Canada Revenue Agency.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: As of April 7, 2010, buyers will not be able to assign the rebate to the builder. For more information about the First-Time Home Buyers Rebate Program, click here for the information sheet.
