This post was inspired by Aaron Auxier post: Siegel, Hughes, Wynn, and Adelson. Each led the Las Vegas Strip into a new direction. A great reminder that behind today's Las Vegas outstanding presence and glamour there are pioneers who's vision, dedication and determination made possible to put on the map the world capital of entertainment... And as Aaron pointed out: "The Las Vegas Strip is entering its fourth stage of major development, each stage being led by a single individual." ... Siegal, Huges, Wynn and Adelson.
In my previous post: That's the Story of!... That's the Glory of!... The Story Behind Sin City! I also made an incursion in the history of old Vegas days... Entertainment and gambling built Las Vegas' reputation as a play ground getaway of the world... From Bugsy Siegel, Liberace, Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Beatles to about every big name in the show business ... They put Las Vegas on the map and made Las Vegas the world’s most famous city of entertainment. It isn't Las Vegas' fault, it's the world's fault for not taking Las Vegas seriously long, long ago.

Las Vegas Strip Panoramic View |
In this post I like to talk a little about the invisible people who are behind the scene but who deserve all the credit for Las Vegas Strip stunning, exquisite, glamorous, glitzy, and dazzling display of buildings... None of those visionaries, developers and investors would be able to bring to light their dreams without the talent and professional excellency of Architects.
"Las Vegas has an architectural history. You see many of the same architects and architectural firms decade after decade, carrying on and enriching ideas, and that too has been ignored by the architectural mainstream." was said at AIA national convention-May 2005
Can a building be a work of art? Can a city be a work of art? ... YES, of-course it does!!!
Following that line of thought MGM Mirage City Center will stay tall and bold into the future as an ephitemy of 21st century Architecture. We can not talk about MGM Mirage City Center without to mention and honor the talent, creativity and vision of the architectural concept of a cosmic proportions. Las Vegas is the epicenter of this seismic phenomena.

Lots of exotic space for the slot machines, Anna. Some of those buildings resemble large rolls of half dollars.
Arina, For some reason Las Vegas has never been on my list of places to go... until now. Now that I have a friend that lives there, you of course, and know more about it thanks to your posts, I think someday I will have to come see you and this exciting place!
Arina, the MGM Mirage City Center will add to convention room bookings and condo space for years to come. Sounds like an enormous project. The city is ever changing with the spectacular buildings the architects and developers keep coming up with.
Wow. I went to Vegas this year for the first time in my life. The thing that really surprised me was the architecture. I had no idea of the kind of creativity that is on display there.
Arina, Your city has always sounded like a work of art...I can't wait to see it myself one day. I believe several cities are (New York and Paris but I'm a bit partial :) I loved the history and information you provide.
David, I hear you... It is true that lots of people see Vegas for what it's main reputation. I was only pointing to the Architecture value of its buildings... I found a remarkable work of art.
Susan, I moved here 6 years ago... not knowing anything about this city (still I don't know everything) I was brought by - that time - my fiancee (yes) and did not like it to much.
Now that I am here I find hard to move out... The energy and vibration of this city gets under your skin. I am not fond of gambling and all that, but I love the excitement and restlessness that is in the air. My family wants me back in North California... But once you get to understand this city is hard to move. It isn't Las Vegas' fault, it's the world's fault for not taking Las Vegas seriously long, long ago.
You're welcome anytime...
Arina, one of my fav. TV shows is CSI Vegas. I love the lit up buildings and your photos are excellent. I like David's observation that some of the buildings look like rolls of coins.
Gary, MGM Mirage City Center, is the beginning of a new Architectural era "the fourth stage of major development"... More to come! In the next 10 - 15 years Vegas will blow up the entire world with its Architectural developments of cosmic proportion. It will be the Mecca of the West Civilization. Everyone will want to have a piece of it! Irresistible magnet for world invertors...
Kevin, The Architecture of Vegas is quite controvertional (I am referring to the Strip) Some find the Strip to crowded and buildings competing with each other... It is true in many ways as the developers were fighting for their piece of action. But in many other ways is fascinating to see that diversity and shapes all in one place. Keep you mind open!
For the coming years developers and Architects will join their efforts, and talent, to incorporate (the existing) and further expend with new developments... on larger scale more harmonious and sophisticated Architectural style.
Arina - So they are going to bring harmony to the world of Vegas? Best of luck trying to tie a thread through the divergent architectural themes. To be honest, I was fascinated by the incredible creativity and was willing to take on the mindset of a beatle and just Let It Be. Rock on creativity.
Suddenly I found myself on the defensive site (who would of believe that?)... To often I hear people venting against Vegas. How bad the city is, how rude the people are, how ... how ... how...
I was even asked what the hell am I doing in this City (considering that I've been here only for 6 years) and why I stick around and not move on!... I am a Californian, lived all my life around open spaces and beaches. (I even went half way through with my California Real Estate Licence)l So what's wrong with me?... I've got the bug.
Vegas is a terrific place to live a great City and in spite of it's bad reputation can also be a decent and pleasant place to live. Real Estate put me in contact with all kind of people... I've learned about this City's history... I've learned it's geography... I've learned it's life style... I've learned it's mentality... I've learned............
It's an exciting place and intend to stick around!
Thank you... You just took the question out of my mouth... I believe that everything happens for a reason. "If you can make it there you can make it anywere." Right? It's always good to have a save harbor you can turn to...
I have to admit that I agree with your point of view as of the future in Architectural developments of Vegas. More and more interest and participation from the greatest Architects of our time is focusing now on Las Vegas urban planning.
César Pelli has done also an incredible project here in San Francisco : Transbay Transit Center
Thank you for mention it!
The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Cesar Pelli, Architect.
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
This is an other brilliant project!
Arina, I have never looked at the strip as a work of art but the architecture is very fascinating and a reminder that every Architect has a form of artistic talent! I think of Architecture as engineering, but it does require a creative mind and a combination of many talents!
