Las Vegas Home-Buyer Satisfaction Among Highest in US

The slowdown in the housing industry, combined with a need to win consumers, have resulted in high Las Vegas market home-buyer satisfaction ratings. This is terrific news to those contemplating purchasing a newly constructed home in the Las Vegas area. According to the annual JD Power and Associates survey, Las Vegas ranked second to Phoenix in overall home-buyer satisfaction.

The survey was first offered in 1997, and is based on a 1,000 point scale. On the 1,000 point scale, the Las Vegas market averaged 878, compared to 825 in 2009 and 799 in 2008. And the Las Vegas score comes in well above the national average of 826. The consistent increase in the area's score is attributed to a trend in Las Vegas for new homes bought in 2009.

Ratings are based on the following variables, among others:

• warranty
• customer service
• workmanship
• price
• home readiness
• location

The survey includes 16,400 buyers of newly built single-family homes who offered feedback after living in their home an average of four to 18 months. Ironically, homebuyers in areas with a large number of foreclosures were among the highest of the most satisfied, such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, Southern California, and Orlando. Overall though, satisfaction has increased in 15 of the 17 individual markets that were also surveyed in 2009.
