Facebook an asset or liability...

I have to confess that Facebook never appealed to me from the beginning. Is not to say that I underestimate the fascination that so many share for the instant communication with the outside world. Appealing? ... maybe. Safe? ... questionable.

Has society become less private or is it Facebook that's pushing people in that direction? Is privacy online just an illusion anyway? I found that Facebook was just an other social networking were people post pictures, share information and let personal thoughts fly in the cyber space... in other words open yourself to the world to see and hear you... the circle of your "friends" - "friends of friends" and whatever else! If you thought Facebook was your personal playground, think again. Play the most popular games, and your personal information - and in some cases, your list of friends - is sent to app-makers and their allies in the advertising and data-gathering trades.

What about privacy? It seams that was not a concern in the original format of the Facebook. The founder Mark Zuckerberg keeps educating us all that the world has changed, that it's become more public and less private... Is that allright? or is strategicaly aimed to justifiy a fundamentaly wrong business practice and embarrassing technical glitches that exposed personal data! The controversial new default and permanent settings is an attempt to keep Facebook on the cruising mood.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg used to say that people would share more information if they felt comfortable knowing that it would only be visible to people they trusted.

  • But how that can be when majority of people reaches on Facebook thousand upon thousands of "friends"... Don't tell me that I can call @ thousand"Friends" to trust with my personal information. I think that is rather playing Russia roulette with our privacy.
  • There is a long list of people who clearly do, though, including: people who've escaped abusive relationships, people with marginalized religious or sexual preferences, people who fear losing their jobs or who've been pushed around by bullies throughout their lives. That list adds up to a very large portion of the world, in fact.

And until Facebook can get past dating and weight loss (or broadly, personal improvement), it's not a great place for most advertisers. Being able to micro-target, isn't profitable if users won't click with intent (and I submit that many ad clicks on Facebook are accidental, given the bounce rates and time on page metrics that we see). The most annoying fact is that to access those Business Pages you need to login with your Facebook account... Business Pages are not accessible directly on line for everybody to see. What happens with promoting your Business?... Is the entire world supposed to be on Facebook?

As an intensive effort to reinvent the way Facebook integrates Business Pages, Advertising and Marketing into the System we see a broad interest of about every business(from corporations to the local small business) jumping on the wagon... Is Facebook Marketing Gold Or Hype? ...At least we can give a good use to our Facebook account. The only problem is left at the moment unclear is how you can create a Facebook business (fan) page without having a personal Facebook account. Does Facebook allow it - no. If you get caught, they shut down the account. You don't need to put much in the account - it can have very little information. I believe Hubspot has a few guides on how to set up Facebook accounts (see link and scroll down page for a few resources) that will help you - you want to me sure that you set up securities right and block information you don't want to show. And yes, you can have more than one business page with your personal account.
