If you're in Las Vegas for any reason (vacation, NAR convention, etc) be sure and stay up late tonight to see the coming down of the Frontier Hotel and Casino. The implosion is scheduled for 2:30 a.m. If you're too tired to stay up that late, or don't want to fight the crowds, you can always watch it live on TV on the local stations, or as a rerun on the local morning news.
Opened as the Last Frontier in 1942, it honored Elvis' Las Vegas debut in 1958, as well as Siegfield and Roy's debut, and even Ronald Regan performed there in the 1950's. The doors were closed for good in July 2007.
The imploding of the New Frontier is being done to make way for the The Plaza, a $5 Billion luxury mega-resort designed after New York City's Plaza Hotel. 3,500 rooms, private residences, retail space and a casino are being planned to reach for the high end clientele. The multi-billion dollar project is scheduled to open in 2011. Keep an eye on this blog for future information on The Plaza.

Mary - I bet watching that would be exciting and sad at the same time with so much history behind it. It always amazes me when I have watched on TV these huge buildings coming down.
Mary I miss all the fun! did it get caught on film?
I am looking forward to seeing the actual implosion. As long as implosions continue to happen the city will continue to grow.

I hope you were involved in the purchase of that land! That would be a nice chunch of change even at 1/2 a percent commission.
So many of the classic Las Vegas building have come down over the years. It's great that there is so much growth but it must be a bit bitter-sweet to see the last of the old buildings go down.
Mary, I saw a video of the implosion on Sellsius blog and didn't realize until now that it happened recently. I thought it was their way of bringing in the Realtor Convention in a funny way. I assume you are attending the convention...and if so...any great things to share that you have seen or heard?
Boy does that bring back memories of the "old days." I saw it come down on television. Amazing stuff, huh?
