Not everyone likes to golf in Mesquite or try to get lucky at one of our 4 casinos. One way to enjoy our area is to just take a walk! We have miles of trails around Mesquite - if you have the energy, you can walk from one end of town to the other!
In the summer it gets pretty hot here and you might not want to be out - but is so nice once that sizzling sun goes down. That would be a great time to go down to the Virgin River Trail at the south end of Mesquite.
The trail is completely paved with streetlights that come on at dusk so that you can walk it 24 hours a day. It is wheelchair accessible so that anyone can enjoy it. Sometimes you will see a mom pushing a toddler in a stroller - sometimes a healthy looking senior citizen at a brisk walk. You might see whole families walking the trail on the way to one of our many parks for a picnic.

One of the nicest times to walk the trail is early morning - even in the summer heat. As the sun comes up the southern mountains turn shades of blue and pink with the morning sun light.
Dogs are allowed on a leash on all of our trails - just remember to pick up after them!
The Virgin River Trail is only a couple of miles from the center of Mesquite - bring your lunch to the park - you will still have time for a pleasant outdoor break from work with a walk along the Virgin River.

Gorgeous photo - terrific place for trails......walks.........I have a question.......being Canadian and all.........:-) is this where Mesquite sauce is from? :-) Is there a history to how it came to be?
Liz - No, I don't think so. Wood chips from the Mesquite trees are added to a barbecue - the smell and the taste of the smoke is from the wood and gives food that Mesquite flavor. I think! :)
Virginia- I would be afraid of rattle snakes if I was walking those trails. I have had my share in the Sierras and they just plain scare me. Just like sharks do here in my backyard and alligators!
Virginia, it would be great to take a walk early in the morning.
Virginia, that photo is frame worthy! Makes me want to put on my cowboy boots and take a leisurely stroll through that gorgeous scenery.
Virginia, you have once again found a great venue for fun, this time walking. I agree in hot climates, timing is everything and very early or after the blazing sun has nearly set is the optimum time for this pleasurable activity. Beautiful scenery in your backyard.
Katerina - the casinos pay someone to patrol the walking trails for crawly things that might scare the tourists away.
Marzena - actually, I have only done that once - I am a lump in the morning.
Norma - thank you - that was a beautiful spring morning - I took lots of pics that day.
Gary - it is kinda cool - you look one way, the desert. You look the other way, green and mountains.
Virginia,
One of the special benefits of being on AR is seeing the beautiful photographs of this land. This shot is one of those beautiful photos. I just wish you had put in more.
Great job.
Richard
Richard - Thanks, maybe I will add a couple more.
Lucky you to have such a beautiful place to take a walk.
Christine - We are lucky here - I have a client who comes occasionally for a week or so - his wife drops him off with his bike and that is how he gets around, Mesquite is all connected with walking and bike trails.
I read your title and couldn't believe there was such a thing as a walking trail in Nevada. I thought walking any more than 10 minutes in the direct sun was called suicide there.
Todd - I think the expression 'crazy with the heat' actually came from here. :)
Actually, we have lots people who take long walks here year round at all times of the day. Kamikazi walkers. In the summer I drive to the mailbox.
Uh-oh. Another early morning walker. Wanna do a virtual walk with me later this morning?
The really nice thing about early morning walking is that one gets to see the world wake up, which I think is much more exciting than watching it get ready for bed.
That was me there above, Virginia. ActiveRain is being a problematic young child this morning and sometimes kicking me out without my knowledge.
Hi Russel, virtual walk - I love that idea - the AR hamsters must be up to something this morning, I keep getting error messages - maybe I better go take a walk. :)
