Chinese New Year began January 23, 2012. Just because the official start of the new year has passed by doesn't mean that people have stopped commemorating it. Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the Lantern Festival in Reno this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (February 3rd, 4th and 5th).
The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno (2500 E 2nd Street) is hosting a weekend filled with fun, magic and plenty of entertainment. Beginning at 6pm on Friday, February 3rd, there will be a Dragon and Lion Dance Parade taking place right on the casino floor. Chin-Chin "The Imaginator" will be performing in the Grand Theatre at 9pm Friday evening.
On Saturday, visitors can enjoy a special Kung Fu demonstration, Feng Shui workshop as well as dance and musical presentations throughout the day. A Lion Dance Blessing Ceremony will take place at 6pm Saturday evening by the non-smoking slot area. The Grand Theatre will host a dance-off, traditional Chinese music and an acapella performance by an Asian boy band for free to the public.
For the last day of the Lantern Festival, there will be more traditional Chinese music and dance performances throughout the day, including an acoustic soloist and another acapella performance by an Asian boy band. The chefs have also created dinner specials for all visitors and guests to the hotel. Special packages at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino are available if you don't want to miss any of the festivities.
Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at the Lantern Festival in Reno this weekend, February 3-5, 2012. The event itself is absolutely free. You will have to pay for food, drink and the magic show, however. Tickets for Chin-Chin are only $5.50 each and can be purchased online here.
