What's The Best Way To Spend Your Free Time This Summer In Reno?

Looking for the best way to spend your free time this Summer? Or are you simply looking for  a little adventure to go along with your summer plans?  Well look no further because the best place for fun and entertainment in Reno this summer can be found downtown Reno at the Riverwalk District!

Reno Riverwalk District

This summer take a journey along the Truckee River and discover Reno's Riverwalk District. Here you will find over 50 options in dining, shopping, recreation and entertainment, all perfectly situated in the heart of downtown Reno, Nevada.

When you visit the Riverwalk District online, start your search and find wonderful downtown Reno restaurants, museums, places to get a drink and find out where to shop.

If you want to know what someone who has lived in Reno a long time would do in downtown Reno this summer, you are in luck. I love the Riverwalk District and highly recommend Reno's most exciting area to hang out at with friends and family.

The Riverwalk District is located along the Truckee River where you will find dozens of great shops, eateries, events, shows, classes and more. Below I have listed a few of my favorite things to down in downtown Reno this summer, I hope you will find something of interest on my list Riverwalk favorites!

Pegs Glorified Eggs

1) Have breakfast or Brunch at Peg's Glorified Ham & Eggs. Located at 420 S. Sierra Street, walking distance from downtown Reno's Truckee River, Peg's is a local favorite for breakfast so expect a small wait when you arrive. Peg's offers all the traditional brunch and breakfast meals with great tasting coffee and outstanding service. All for under $10!!

2) Watch a FREE movie in the Park! Always great fun for the entire family. Part of Reno's Artown festival that happens annually every July, free movies are held at Reno's Wingfield Park amphitheater. Located at 300 W 1st Street right along the Truckee River. Bring a blanket to sit on and a sweatshirt to keep you warm after the sun goes down. This year's movies include Wizard of Oz and Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade.

3) Buy a rare, out of print or used book at the Dharma Books ~ a used book store on 11 N Sierra Street to find a great read and walk one block down to Java Jungle for a great cup of coffee. Located along the Truckee River (of course) where you can sit outside and enjoy your book with your favorite espresso drink.

Floating Down The Truckee

4) Float Down The Truckee River. Rarely do you come across a Renoite who has not floated down the Truckee River.  Rent a tube and spend the day floating down the river. Bring your floatable coolers, tie it your tube, or raft,  so you won't go  hungry or thirsty.

5) Free Music in The Park~ Presented by RenoNews&Review, every Friday at 5:30pm in July you will find a free concert in Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. Artists perform tributes to artists like Heart, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Buffet and U2.

6) Go to the movies. My favorite movies theater is conveniently located along the Reno Riverwalk. The Riverside 12 Movie Theater is clean and offers a variety of movies. Located at 11 N. Sierra Street. Take a stroll along river before or after the movie.

Reno Envy

7) Buy a T-Shirt at Reno eNVy.  Quirky, cute, unique and one of a kind Reno themed T-Shirts. Located at 135 N. Sierra Street. Sizes run small so don't be offended when you have to go up one size.

8) Go to a Reno Aces Baseball Game. Not really considered part of the Riverwalk District, but the Aces stadium is located right downtown Reno. Have dinner at the Wild River Grill and walk over to the game. Game times and prices very. Check out their website for all your Reno Aces Baseball information.

9) Visit The National Auto Museum ~ Save this one for those really hot days. Stay cool and stroll inside one the of countries Top Car Museums on the World. The National Car Museum(Harrah's Automobile Collection) opened in Reno in 1989 and displays more than 200 different cars. The museum is located at 10 S. Lake Street in downtown Reno.

Movies in the park

10) Attend a Reno Artown event in July. Most events are free and great family entertainment. Artown captures the imagination and brings with it a celebration of distinguished artists from around the world, across the country, and those that live in our community all for the sake of cultural diversity and artistic innovation.

To experience the best and the latest in visual and performing arts, Artown features more than 400 events, from over 100 presenters designed to inspire, and yes, to impress the 350,000 people that experience our festival annually.

If you are looking for a great way to spend your free time this summer in Reno, Nevada,  be sure to check out the Reno Riverwalk District where you can find a rare, out of print book, buy a one-of-a kind Reno eENvy T-Shirt, watch a free movie under the stars or in a stadium style movie theater. What ever you decide to do this summer, I hope you find the time to enjoy one of my favorite downtown Reno Rivewalk activities.
