Feng Shui in Long Island

Feng Shui in Long Island-A feng Shui Consultant's Dream

On a recent Feng Shui Consultation on Long Island, I arrived at my client's home early. As I waited outside I began to reflect on what a journey it was to get to where I am today.

It was a difficult period in my life; going through a divorce with small children and finding myself having to work six days a week-and feeling a pull SO STRONG to join this Feng Shui Study Class that I kept hearing about. The very first class in the United States that was licensed and accredited in Feng Shui Studies right on Long Island New York.

My job wouldn't allow me the time. Which would mean finding a new one---in less then a month's time. Then there was the money issue-I didn't have it. My ever encouraging mother gave me half and I wondered who I could possibly borrow the other half from.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I swallowed any possible pride and asked my soon-to-be ex-husband for the money. I can still see him when he broke out in laughter and said "You think you're going to even SURVIVE doing that?"

Reluctantly (and probably out of guilt), he gave me the money. I found another job who WOULD allow me the time off and flexible hours during the time I was in school. I was amazed that at the very last day I had to submit the rest of the money for the course and sign up, I'd done it!

Babylon Long Island by Feng Shui Long Island ConsultantBabylon Long Island--places to dock right in your backyard!

Many of us have a fascination with homes. Certainly realtors do-it's something that's not able to be explained. I've spoken to so many Home Stagers and many of them say the SAME thing: They have ALWAYS loved decorating and re-decorating. Seeing other people's homes and imagining it a different way-the way THEY see it.

Long Island by Feng Shui Long Island ConsultantBitter cold -- now if our brave friend could find some WATER--that's ice.

It must be a love we've grown up with and never knew exactly WHY. It doesn't matter.....

Babylon Long Island by Feng Shui Long Island ConsultantBabylon Long Island LOVES it's Lighthouses!

I know this one thing: If you LOVE what you're doing, if you put your heart and soul into it, you WILL succeed. No matter what the odds or how difficult it seems at times. Follow your dreams and they will come true; I've seen it over and over again.

Here's a few shots I took across the street from my Feng Shui Consultation in Babylon Long Island New York. A lovely part of Long Island-only about 15 minutes from my home and 12 years to get here.

Carole, nice post! I agree...if we put our heart and soul into something we truly believe in we will come out winners. Sometimes it may not turn out exactly how we hoped but we will come out stronger and will have grown from it. So good for you for making it through a hard time in your life and growing from it!

Wow... I am so glad they did fund your studies. Think of what we would have missed if they had not. I absolutely love reading your blog and am learning quite a bit from you (although I don't always comment - LOL).

BTW, love the eye candy. ;-)

Carole, you are one of the loveliest people I have found here in the Rain (and in life) and thank you for sharing some of your life journey with me and all of us. You are a GREAT example of overcoming obstacles, following your passion, and staying positive. I loved all these photos too.

Hi Carole ! Very nice post, and good for you for going after your dream and sticking at it !

... love the photos by the way :o)

Cheers !

Sheldon

Carole, I just love your attitude.  When you really want something; commit to doing it and you will ALWAYS find a way. If you give into your reasons for not doing something then surely you will not succeed! Thank you for sharing this. I too believe that if you do what you love...then the money will follow!

carole - great shots, I love long island, grew up along the connecticut shore so these wonderful photos are very familiar

Carole,

Your words bring such hope and promise to those who love what they do, to keep on keeping on......your determination and eye for beauty is a true rarity and a balm for the weary soul.

beautiful photos!

Jo-Anne, very well said. :-)

Cristal, I know exactly what you mean. :-)

Good for you, Carole.  I'm sure it wasn't easy to ask for the money.  However, in doing so, you were able to attend what sounds to be an incredible course.

Carole, this is just beautiful! I love the eye candy too! I once raised 8 Mallard ducks that though I was their mom. What fun it was.

We are driven by our dreams.  And when those dreams come true .... we have a true AHA! moment.

You were much stronger than you thought back then.  And look at where you are now ... doing what you love, and with your daughter by your side.

Life is good, my friend.  Life is good.

( 02/08/09 11:29AM ) — Laurie Mindnich

Carole, I had absolutely no appreciation for 'fung" shui- now, it's something that has entered my house, to the extent that your suggestions are implemented. There hasn't been a single change made (as a result of your teachings) that hasn't added a positive element. THANK YOU!!!

Way Cool you ought to be posting your blogs on the www.longislandgrapevine.com  the blogs and forums are free.  Have a super day

It's amazing what can happen when hope meets persistence and determination.

What a journey Carole! Your positive attitude is an inspiration and a reminder that bad times don't last - they are bumps in our road of life.

( 02/08/09 12:05PM ) — Sharon Lee

Hi Carole-You are a wonderful example if you keep going and don't let life's struggle keep you down then you can succeed beyond your wildest dreams. You have much to be proud of and i am very glad i've had the opportunity to get to know you thru your blogs. You are a special person my friend. I appreciate the support of my work very much. Thank you. :-)

Beautiful post, Carole (in many ways); and good for you, for sticking to it, and finding that money.
This is definitely a year, I think, where we will see a lot of people struggle to find what they love, and absolutely go for it.  Life is too short.  Do what you love, and do it well.

Sounds like a great journey Carole. I love your photos with this article.

Great Story Carol. You give us all hope that we can accomplish our dreams.  I'm starting to tell my clients more Feng Shui tips in staging their homes, and they actually believe me!

Nice pictures too. If these were taken recently, it looks like spring will be around the corner for you too!

have a great week.

Donna, Thank you for your comment.  It still is incredible to me, years later, what we can accomplish when we really want it.  I don't think you can lose when you put all your energy into something.

Carolyn, Thank you for stopping by and commenting--and for the feature in your wonderful club.  I take the "eye candy" compliment from the QUEEN  of Eye Candy here on AR :)!

Gary, Thank you so much my friend.  You're truly an inspiration to so many of us here on Activerain with your incredible posts--all of which somehow hit a nerve.

Sheldon, Thank you.  I felt a bit like that duck...and realized I had MUCH more exploring to do.

Crystal, I have seen it over and over again.  Those who are committed to something always find a way to achieve it--no matter how big "it" is. Wonderful, isn't it?

James, The Conneticut shore is beautiful.  I love Long Island too....such a shame it's gotten too expensive to live here for so many.

Jo, You know when we stick to something we TRULY want, somehow it just comes our way.  Accident?  Of course not, there are no accidents :)

Carolyn, When you stop by, you certainly STOP BY :)  Thank you!!

Kathy, Actually it was ridiculous to ask for the money.  But I got it--along with some sneers.  BTW, he's never regretted it and somehow can't believe I made it.

Deb, I had regular ducks as a child...who thought I was their mom as well.  They ARE a joy, aren't they?  When they grew older we set them free but I'll never forget it.

Carol, I sometimes don't believe it myself.  And my daughter is SO good, she marvels me with the suggestions she makes and how she is to clients.  Life IS good...very Good!

Laurie, Wow, I am actually thrilled to hear that.  I think of you as a total disbeliever--I'm so glad some things are making their way into your home with changes for the better.

Hi Tom, I thought I knew most of the Long Island sites....I guess not.  Thank you so much for letting me know about this.

Chuck, Good way to put it....It takes all of those things and your dreams become realities.

Debbie, There were bumps...and still are.  I go around them when I can and finally jump them if I have to!  And when we fall, we get back up.

Sharon, Thank you.  Your photos are just beautiful....I enjoy every one of them.

Sylvie, What a lovely way to put it:  "Do what you love and do it well."  It works and somehow we always get by!

Bill, Thank you.  Long Island is such a pretty place to live, especially in the Spring and Summer.

Linda, People are MUCH more open to Feng Shui then they were even a few years ago...keep telling them.  You don't know what you're going to spark in someone.

Carole:  I bet ole "x" isn't laughing now!  Reminds of the country music song, "how do you like me now" - have you heard it?  You are great at what you do and how blessed are we to find our passion in life and get to live it.  I love being a Realtor just like I can tell how much you love being a Feng Shui Consultant which is the reason why, if I do say so myself, we are both so good at what we do.

Beautiful post Carole!  Following your dreams in the direction of your passions kept your heart and soul alive and happy!!  I am so grateful you are my friend.

Wonderful attitude Carole.  when something pulls that hard you have to find a way to listen.  With so many people going through rough times right now it is improtant to remember if you look hard enough and want something bad enough you can find a way.

I enjoyed reading this so much, Carole. Like the duck on the ice, I'm walking on frozen dreams, rearranging matters of the mind in hopes of a thawing of the river that runs deep in matters of the heart. Your story is so much encouragement and inspiration! Thank you, brave one!

What a fabulously inspirational blog!  I'm glad that you have learned so much on your journey and are willing and able to share it with others!

Thank you for sharing your story...it's all about passion!  You truly found your calling and were brave enough to risk it all to make it happen.  I am so proud of you.  You are so great at what you do and so kind and insightful!

Carole, I enjoyed learning more about your journey. You followed your passion and turned it into a fruitful business. Loved the photo's, it never occured to me that there were such beautiful canals in Long Island.

( 02/09/09 09:28PM ) — Jacqueline Forde

What a fabulous story...so glad you shared it!

Carole, you amaze me! It just goes to show that you can do anything that you set your mind to. What does your ex-husband think now? :)

Carole ~  You are on an amazing journey and your love and passion shine through in all that you do!  You have inspired so many to live their dream.  May you continue to love each and every day with the same energy and drive.

( 02/10/09 02:25PM ) — Team Honeycutt

A room with a view.  Thanks for sharing.  I love that the duck found the water and didn't fall in

Shelton

Donna, I'll just bet he isn't :)  I haven't heard the song so I'm going to YouTube it.  I DO love what I do and know you love your profession as well--thank you for the wonderful words.

Cathy, It's my pleasure being your friend!  We are all fortunate, any of us that followed our dreams and passions.  The only things you regret are the things you didn't try.

Paddy, That is very true.  There always seems to be a way around things if we look hard enough and don't give up.

Mara, I'm not so brave, just determined I think.  Spring is coming and things WILL thaw for you--I'm sorry you're having a rough time but please know that I'm always here--and love phone calls from fellow "rainers."

Melissa, Thank you--and thank you for reading and commenting.  I know how difficult it is to handle a new business and always admire all the people who passed some pretty difficult hurdles to get to where you want to be.

Diane, Thank you.  So many of us have had a difficult time or are having one now---I hope they see that they'll get by even through the "curve balls" that come our way.

Debbie, Long Island is really beautiful.  It has gotten very built up and there are too few precious places left but it's why we struggle so much to live here.

Jacqueline, Thank you and thank you for reading and taking the time to comment.

Libby, I'm not sure what he thinks but I'm sure it came as a shock when my name starting coming out--the thought makes me laugh a bit.

Joan, I think we've all had some difficult journeys and will have more---and somehow we always manage to get through them--somehow :)

Allen, What a brave duck---but I guess he had no choice.  It was interesting to watch him and see his determination!

So true Carole -- Do what you love and the money will follow . . . I was told this years ago, and believe it!  Aren't we blessed to have the ability to love what we do?

I LOVED THE ARTICLE

Hi Carole...as always Great Post.Zig Ziglar aways says if you help enough people get what they want you'll get what you want...Carole That was written by Zig for you. Well Done.

Carole you Rock !

Carole- See ex-husbands are good for something. LOL. From the sound of his reaction to your success there was probably not room for him AND Feng Shui anyway. You definitely got the better end of the deal. And we got you!! Thank you ex-husband!!

Margaret, We truly are.  I too heard it many years ago and have always found it to be true.

Louis, Thank you for the comment and stopping in to read.

Fred, I loved that quote!  Thank you for sharing it and I absolutely believe it!

Margaret, Your remark is too funny :)  I DID get the better end of the deal, I've heard he hasn't changed a bit (NOT a good thing!).

I love looking apartments even though I so many of them.  The ability to find the right apartment for every customer's needs is the goal and that is where the satisfaction comes in from.

Carole, I love the story but even more, I love the pics! Then again, pretty much anything with cute animals gets me every time. I'm still a BIG kid! ;-)

Your Story Carole shows how close one can be to either giving up or gutting up.... - Last week Jeff & I had the privilege of hearing Henry Winkler Speak ( he grew up in NY) his story is very similar - he was broke but somehow persevered and got a big break after almost throwing in the towel....imagine that!

Sincerely,

Grace

Morgan, I know you get to see some beautiful spaces in the City...and can just imagine finding the right one for one of your clients...nice feeling!

Marti, He WAS cute!  He was just all alone but seemed to be doing just fine.

Grace, You always have such great stories in a comment!  I didn't know Henry Winkler was almost broke or that he grew up in NY. I bet it was a wonderful speech!  Thank you for sharing that.

I think that as long as we are doing something we love then we will be successful. It is when you try to force something that doesn't feel right that the potential for failure becomes real. Great post and great example you set.

Carole - what a wonderful article about your journey. That is awesome and thanks for sharing it. I am so glad you took the class and it worked out. I love your photos as well. That duck on the ice is priceless.

( 02/27/09 11:03AM ) — Sherie Earley-Womack

That is so beautiful! I would love to visit this area! Thanks for a great post!

Rich, I do believe, too, when you love something and stick it out, you'll eventually win at it.  I had some very difficult years but am so thankful I never gave up my dreams.

Sharon, I'm so glad it worked out as well.  The idea of being in one of those "corporate" jobs I know I would be very unhappy in!

Sherie, You're welcome anytime although Spring and Summer here are just gorgeous!

Carole, I am not surprised how many good comments you have on your post, including mine! I am also passionate about Feng Shui....Your transmit your vibes through the water view, no doubt you're facing one of your best directions and elements!... Love both, BTB and compass - I will keep reading your posts!

Greetings from Florida!
