Interesting explanation of the Five elements posted by Laura Cerrano NY Feng Shui consultant

element of fire in feng shui

On July 17th, 2011 Laura Cerrano Certified Feng Shui L.I. consultant had the honor of meeting the Geshe Murig Nyima Kunchap Rinpoche ("Geshe La") -From India-With Takla Tashi Lama at "True Livng Yoga" in East NorthPort NY. This was a full circle moment because Geshe La is connected to High Holy Master Professor Lin Yung who Carole Provenzale (Laura's mother and teacher) studied from when she was learning to become a Feng Shui consultant in 1997. Laura had the opportunity to learn from another master that was connected to many of her mother's teacher.

Various topics were shared the day Geshe La came and one in particular that stood out was about the 5 Elements Theory from the Bon Buddhism point of view. Geshe La explained that every thing starts with the wind. The wind? That is correct.

How does one create fire? Well simply look to nature. Out West when you have brush fires, what element do weather reporters speak of? ....wind, powerful gusts of wind jump start the fire and carry it throughout. Think about camp fires, you rub two sticks together but, you need that little bit of wind to finish the job.

okay, so now we have fire, how do you explain water? What type of element does heat produce? Steam! Steam becomes water vapors and once gathered in great amounts create clouds, which then create water.

so water falls from the sky, how do we create Earth? How was long Island New York created? By a giant ice glacier breaking off and connecting together to create a land mass.

What about wood? Wood is created by wind, earth, water and if you think about it fire. Fire regenerates the soil, the rain replenishes the nutrients in the soil and earth provides an area for growth. Once all in place, tress, flowers and other various plants start to take root and blossom. The trees then help clean the air...it's a perfect mix of elements :)

Interestingly enough, even though in Feng Shui we talk about metal, it was not spoken of in the lecture. The main elements talked about by the Geshe La were of Wind, Fire, Water, Earth and Wood.
