After eagerly awaiting the surfers, concerts, skateboarders and other craziness to hit Long Beach, New York for the first time ever, we get hit with Hurricane Irene. We had been hoping to have a hurricane come offshore and stir up the waves for the surfers. The problems was, one came right over Long Beach as the tournament was beginning and caused the producers to have to pull down so much of the work they had done in building skateboard parks, stages, etc. Due to the storm, a large portion of the festivities had to be canceled, but it was still a fun time. Congratulations to the surfers for all their effort and putting up with all the issues on Long Island caused by the storm. We hope you choose Long Beach again in the future. This is the first hurricane I remember coming ashore by Nassau County since Hurricane Gloria in 1986 (or thereabouts).
Wherever Quicksilver ends up for their next event, I highly recommend attending. They are much more fun than almost any other event I can think of. For once, I felt like I was living in Long Beach CA instead of Long Beach, New York. I am a new fan and it made me appreciate everything about living and working in Long Beach just a bit more than before.
