Feng Shui New York & The Make a Wish Foundation
As a Feng Shui Consultant in New York, we try to make a difference. We are involved with Non-Profit groups to help pay it forward....and by "WE" I am speaking of my children and myself. I'd always hoped I taught my children well....
It was my son, Adam, who completely rebuilt a deck for The Jones Manor in Oyster Bay Long Island, a senior non profit complex where the existing deck was too unsafe for the residents to go outside.
And today, Super Bowl Sunday, it is an annual tradition for the Long Beach Long Island "Polar Bears" to come out and take an icy dive. If you haven't heard of it, every year more and more New Yorkers gather in Long Beach Long Island and make a dash into the icy waters of the Atlantic. Long Beach Polar Bear Club, New York
It is done to help children with life threatening illnesses and all donations go to the Make A Wish Foundation. Make-A-Wish Foundation : National Home Page Out of the over 3,000 people that attended today's event, Adam was one of them and helped earn money for this incredible cause.
The Guinness Book of World Records was there as they believe it may have broken the record of having the post people for this event. And while the tally isn't in yet, we are all hoping so.
This event over the years has earned over One MILLION dollars and made many, many wishes come true. Kudos to you, Adam, and all the others who dared to step out (quite literally) to help such a wonderful cause.
If you've never heard of Long Beach, it's beautiful....a little Island off of Long Island New York. The pictures shown are of a Feng Shui New York Consultant where my client was able to purchase her DREAM home and wanted a Feng Shui Consultation.

Hi Carole...You served as a model for your children. That is the best thing we can do for them.
I can imagine how wonderful Adam is making you feel right now. Please give him my thanks for being such a good and caring person and a credit to you.
Kate
Making the dive into that cold water is a tough jump. Doing it for a foundation like Make a Wish would make the pain fade away a little easier. Being a part of that organization is very commendable!
I love that foundation....they have helped so many children achieve a dream.
I don't think that polar bear idea will be one of my life long goals Carole. These people have GUTS!
This is one of my favorite charities. I hope it was sucessful! Here is to the "polar bears"!
Hi Carole...it's always a positive thing to do Paying it Forward, I watched the movie again just a week ago. Very inspiring movie. Like Zig says if you help enough people get what they want you'll get what you want out of life:O)
Let us know about the Polar Bear Club and their World Record. I'll keep my Fingers Crossed.
Great Photos, I love the one from your friends dream home.
Cheers, as always thanks for sharing:O)
Carole,
Wow, I'm so proud of Adam....how wonderful and caring of him to brave those icy waters for this organzation and the children it helps.
BEAUTIFUL pictures.....make me long for summer.
Jo
Congrats to Adam and to you. You lead by example and your children will follow. At least it was over freezing yesterday. I am shivering just thinking about the water on the 1st of Feb in NY. Great photos onec again.
Carole ~ That's wonderful! Adam is very brave to get into the water at this time of year! I hope they do break the record!
Good Morning Carole! What a fun story and for such a great cause. Also, I absolutely love the picture of the window from your clients home-DREAM-with the beautiful beach in the background. What a statement and that dream became a reality. Have a beautiful day!
I am proud of you and your son. For me the example of volunteering was set by my grandmother. She volunteered until the day she died and she lived to be 85 yrs old. I carry on her legacy in many ways. You are a gift to your children.
Carole- what a nice thing to do! The publicity brought to the Make a Wish people should help spur on more donatons too. You and your family are an inspiration.
Love to see pictures of the group out there! Maybe we could get something going here on AR to donate also.
Now get in and stay warm! Have a great week.
Carol,
I know without a doubt that you taught your children well and not only with words but by example. The Make A Wish foundation is a wonderful organization and makes such a big difference in the lives of the children (and families) they help. Three cheers for Adam and his fellow "polar bears".
Wow! Kudos to Adam! God has blessed you richly with such wonderful children, Carole. The Make A Wish foundation is such a wonderful group and has helped so many folks have that 'once in a lifetime' experience.
Please give your son a huge round of applause from all of us. And take a bow yourself ... for raising such a wonderfully compassionate son.
God bless, my friend.
I will get back to you all later and thank you for your comments but THEY DID IT!! THEY BROKE THE GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS---3,500 people!
Carole, The Make A Wish Foundation is a terrific group. We've been blessed and have many opportunities to help others with our skills here in Lynchburg. My husband worked on several school recess playgrounds this summer and the principals were so appreciative. Love the photo's of the beach Carole, though I would be watching the Polar Bears break the record from your client's warm cozy beach home!
Good morning Carole,
What great photos. Thanks for sharing the story. I could not imagine jumping into such icy water. I guess I am just a chicken! Stay warm!
Hi Carole-Great post. I'm a big believer in paying it forward. It doesn't surprise me that you are as well. A wonderful example for your children. Love the pics and the DREAM sign in the window. Hope you are doing well. Have a great week. :-)
congratulations carol, to you and Adam, you are courageous , and a great role model for all of us !!
Hi Carole,
Adam is a son to be very proud of. I am guessing though he had a great mother to teach him and his sister how to be a good person. Love the photo's they remind me of Florida.
We have one of these events here in Mass as well. It is a great program but makes me cold just thinking about it.
Carole, when I was a kid in NYC the Pola Bears used to dip on New Year's day. I wonder if it's the same group?
Congrats on having such a civic minded kid! You must be proud of him.
Wonderful News about the record Carole! Congrats to Adam again.
Kate, He's still thawing out :) I am thrilled they made the record...everyone who participated should be vert proud.
Morgan, They must be doing something right...almost everyone who participated this year signed up for next year--including Adam :)
Sally, They have---I love the wonderful events they hold and a real opportunity to help these children.
Gary, Honestly, I couldn't do it. There was no parking anywhere near the beach, they had to walk for miles besides...
Joan, Fun times....watching the news coverage and hearing about it from Adam.
Fred, I absolutely LOVED that movie....and I believe it. Long Beach is such a beautiful place--I guess that's why the polar bears head there!
Jo, This is a really special part of Long Island that I love. This organization did well and I'm so thrilled! And expect even more next year.
Paddy, You hope they follorw....I am lucky both of my children will always step in to help.
Kathy, You might have seen it on Channel 12. And it's all over You Tube. I'm thrilled they broke the record.
Julie, I am SO happy to see you back, you have been missed my friend!! I was off for a day after I posted this, I hope I will see a post from you and Welcome Home!!
Mel, That is beautiful...I too watched my Grandmother and Mother who always stepped in to help if they could. It's a nice legacy they left us and we can leave behind.
Linda, I heard they are all over You Tube....and am going to go over and look when I have some time. Things have been busy and that's wonderful here.
Cynthia, Make a Wish IS a wonderful foundation to help and have raised over one million dollars to help children's dreams come true. And this will add to it--I'm sure it all helps.
Carol, I'm proud of Adam. This isn't by far the first time he's really helped to make a difference in the lives of people....and I hope he and Laura always continue.
Debbie, I was working that day but thought if I weren't, I just may have contacted her :) But there is no parking in Long Beach, people were parking towns away and walking over the drawbridge to get there---and it was WAY to cold for me!
Betina, It is a gorgeous part of Long Island---we have some absolutely beautiful places here and especially in the summer, that is one of them.
Pat, I do try to pay it forward whenever I can. It causes the ripple effect I believe and spurs others to do the same.
James, I couldn't do that, believe me :) I can't imagine that so many people showed up but I am thrilled that they broke the record and helped children in need.
Trace, I'm definitely a proud mom. He and Laura step up quite often to help and it makes them (and me) feel so good.
Bill It's not an event I could do--and you're even colder up there!! But you live in one beautiful state, it's often my destination for a road trip.
Maggie, I remember that too....and I remember the Super Bowl from Long Beach. I honestly don't know if it's the same group or for the same cause...but it's growing!
Paddy, Thank you. There was a notice that there would be a class teaching Walking on Fire for those who participated--and he passed on that one. Wonder why--lol
Carole - That is awesome for the "Polar Bears" !! I have seen some news stories of various different groups taking their dive... is great ! Also, what wonderful photos too !! Very relaxing and dreamy : )
brrrrrrr!!!!!! but I might get coerced since it befits kids! Thanks for your post here. Very nice!
Chris and Stepanie, I believe they are all over----This is the Superbowl one. Come to think of it, my son's team won. I wonder if he bet on it :)
Mara, It IS a wonderful benefit but not something I could ever think of doing. Even if I weren't working that day, I wouldn't have been able to stand on the beach for hours......
I am so impressed that your son has followed the lead you gave him growing up and is now "paying it forward" in his own ways. I aspire to instill similar values in my kids and you're an inspiration to me!
Carole - the saying "there is more happiness in giving than receiving" is so true, and you and family set a good example.
Hi Carole,
Yes, giving of one's self is such a wonderful thing!
