How Small Can You Go? Manhattan Apartment in New York is 78 Sq Ft!

Pictured above: Luke Tyler fitting in his New York apartment

Luke Tyler, a New York architect, was looking for a living space in one of the most popular cities in America but his budget didn't quite fit the area. Due to Luke's contentedness with small living areas he was able to grab himself a spot in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. The 78 Sq Ft 'apartment' costs Luke $800/month.

The apartment that has been called the "Shoe-Box Studio" is just big enough to hold only Luke's necessities, and not even all of them. Running water and a bathroom are just two of the things that could be considered as necessities to many people that don't fit in this apartment. Luke shares a bathroom with 3 other people that also live in the building. There's no kitchen but as a vegetarian Luke gets by with microwavable eggs (his microwave fits in his closet). The couch turns into a bed (and has a storage unit) and the closet holds Luke's clothes, toiletries, microwave, kitchen utensils, and computer printer.

A lot of people are outraged at the fact that Luke has agreed to pay this much for such a small place and say that he's contributing negatively to a crazy Manhattan/New York real estate market. On the opposite, others are happy to know that there is someone that can be content with so little. As for Luke, he thinks the price on his apartment is small compared to the desirablitiy of living in the Big Apple.
