Mayor Bloomberg, Billy Joel, Clive Davis, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum announced that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will open an annex in New York City in the heart of SoHo.
When the 25,000 square foot annex opens in November, it will be the first location outside the Museum's home in Cleveland. The announcement took place at 76 Mercer Street, the future site of the annex.
The state-of-the-art facility will focus on the defining moments in rock and roll history and will be designed to resonate with both the casual music fan and the seasoned rock enthusiast. It will feature an array of exhibitions, including a permanent "New York Rocks" gallery that will highlight key locations around New York City that have musical significance.
The annex will also showcase selected relics from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's vast collection, including Bruce Springsteen's 1957 Chevy, John Lennon's Record Plant Piano, Elvis Presley's motorcycle jacket, a handwritten poem by Jim Morrison and more.
Some highlights:
The annex will open in November, but advance tickets will be available through http://www.rockannex.com/ beginning in October.

Mitchell. This is a truly exciting event. I love Billy Joel's music. It's so "comfortable".
Mitchell, I'll put this on my must-see list for my next visit to NYC.
Brian, I think it is going to be very a very cool and fun place to visit.
Mitchell, this looks like one they should add to the double decker bus tour of Manhattan!
Mitchell, I did hear of this and was thrilled :) I'm glad you told me about the advance tickets, this is something I am definitely going to get to!
Pat, One of these days I should take one of those double decker tours. As you know I go on brokers tours lol. I hear the sex and the city tour is fabulous. Why not a rock and roll tour?
Carole, Enjoy, It will be a great new attraction. I think SoHo is a great location for it too.
And for those of you who are going to be in the Raleigh/ Cary, NC area this September, don't forget to check out the Benefit concert for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Featuring Jefferson Starship, Jack Bruce, Dave Mason and many other performers, the Koka Booth amphitheater is a very cool, laid back, intimate setting for a show like this.
Thank you for sharing this information and the heads up on the advanced ticket sales. The Annex is a great idea!
Mitchell: This sounds just absolutely fabulous. I am sure it will be a wonderful thing for the city of New York... and a great augment to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. New York Rocks... Cleveland Rocks ! Thanks so much for sharing.
MITCH - I hadn't heard about this, but it sounds really cool. I'd like to go to the rock and roll hall of fame, but it doesn't seem like enough of a reason to take a trip to Cleveland. I will definitely check out the NY version.
Adam, I think it will be really cool too. The reason to take a trip to Cleveland would be to visit my activerain friend and Cleveland blogger Carole Cohen.
Adam: I am from Cleveland... and the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is right next to the Browns, Cavs and Indians venues... so you might go to a Knicks, Giants or Yankees game, and then take in the Rock Hall. When you go, make sure you visit "The Flats." Lots of fun.
Mitchell: I am thinking about going to Cleveland this fall for a visit, and Carole Cohen is one person I want to see. She has already promised me a personal tour of her market area... so much has changed since I was last there in 1994.
Karen Anne, Carole will be a fun tour guide. Everyone I've ever met from Cleveland is really nice. I recently found out my manager is from Cleveland.
