A Manhattan Feng Shui Office---Feng Shui YOUR Office!....by Feng Shui Long Island & New York City

I love Feng Shui everywhere. From the huge Corporations to the smallest spaces, they are always fun for me (and hopefully to my lovely clients). This was a Feng Shui Consultation in Manhattan and an absolute delight. My client had already hired me for her other small space in a beautiful area of New York City I hadn't seen before....You may have read the posts: Feng Shui New York City Studio: Working in VERY Small Spaces by Feng Shui Long Island and Feng Shui in New York City @ Historic Tudor City by Feng Shui Long Island

*Note: After our Feng Shui Consultation for her Studio, she made some changes and another Studio in the same area became available....she has since moved (her intention) and loves her new space!

This time she called me to Feng Shui her office. It is located in a famous high rise in New York City with the absolute BEST security I have ever seen. My client loves her position but has seen the power of Feng Shui and has admirable goals of being recognized, having more responsibility and moving up in the company. And she has been kind enough to allow me to write about it and share her photos.

She thought since her space was so small it would only take a few minutes....it actually took more then an hour because no matter how big or small your space is, we are working with not only Feng Shui "cures" but Intention. It is necessary to be really clear about your Intentions while making ANY changes, even small ones.

*The walk to Grand Central Station...you can enter the High Rise through Grand Central.

While this can not take the place of a personalized Feng Shui Consultation, it may just get you moving to where you'd like to be. Print out a Bagua from the internet and place it over your desk from the position of your chair. Your chair is your "entrance" into your desk and is used as "Career Area." Imagine the Bagua as a transperancy and you can lay it over any area...a property, a home, or a DESK. You should now easily be able to locate the other eight areas of your life.

Here are some hints and ideas for you if you'd like to use a little Feng Shui in YOUR office space:

Bring some items from home to give your space a good feeling. It is said in many of the schools of Feng Shui that your HOME supports your BUSINESS. Creating a bond between the two helps strengthen them.

Watch your back! In Feng Shui we like a "commanding" position facing the door if at all possible and we need to be "backed up" in life. An older school of Feng Shui suggests a picture of a Mountain for support but anything that signifies strength and makes you feel good every time you look at it will work just fine.

When we want to get an area "moving," we use a moving object. Any type of moving object you like. One of my clients recently used a Lava Lamp to bring some fun in the room while another chose a small, desktop waterfall. **IMPORTANT: When positive things start to happen in the particular area of the moving object, move it to another area---or it is likely to move right back out again!

Address Career: Not only where you are today but also what you aspire to...whether it be moving up in your present company or moving to a different place of business or an entirely different career. Make up a business card with your name and position with the Intent that you're already there.

**Small Spaces in Feng Shui Count! Feng Shui YOUR Desk.

For Partnerships, Personal and Business, think in twos and the color pink. My client decided to bring in two fresh flowers every week to her office space....wonderful Chi to add! Plants are also pure "life force" and are good in ANY area although we use them often in the Wealth Area.

Clean the CENTER of your desk every night before you leave. The Center of your Desk is HEALTH---and we don't need any issues there!

If you think about the Law of Attraction, that is exactly what Intention IS. Use plenty of it in any changes you are making and watch it work! My thanks to my lovely client for allowing me to show you her space (and I'm looking forward to posting some "after" shots).

---Many thanks to my wonderful client for her trust with her spaces.

Carole, I so can use you as a personal consultant for Feng Shui. The center of my desk ends up in a pile of papers each night. This is not good for my health. I'm reading you but I'm not following too well. I also like the bringing in something to the office from home.

Very interesting. I never thought of feng shui for my office.  I have a separate home office -- and it would be great to implement some of these ideas.  Thanks to your client for letting use peek in.

Carol - I love reading and learning from you ! While I am doing the makeover2takeover I want to makeover my desk and office space and you are giving me some great stuff ! Parked to learn and read more ! Melissa Grant, Crossville TN Real Estate

Carol, thank you for providing Feng-Shui advice. I bought several books to learn about it, only to find out that I'm more confused. I selected my desk in the office where I face the northeast which is my personal development area, but I know I have to face another way to encounter success! It seems to have many different approaches, what are your suggestions about focusing in the important areas only?

Carole....  such an important place, our office or our office space...   this is some great advice, making our office or work place a pleasurable place.   It gives me some ideas... thanks

Hi Carole!
Thanks for this mini office feng shui lesson.  I keep my desk fairly clean and cleared off now, thanks to you and some of your previous posts. Now I may have to add some things to it to give it the right energy, I believe. I like the idea of two flowers and a few plants on my desk.

It's very nice of your client to offer you the photos of her desk and to tell her story. I'm glad she found a larger studio to call home.

Jo

You always provide so much information and inspiration! Thank you!

It's amazing that there are such small things (flowers from home) that can make a difference in the way we perform our jobs and reap the benefits.

Hi Carole,
My new daily goal:  "Clean desk before the end of the day" .  I have learned so much from you.

Carole ~ I am going to keep these tips you gave in mind for when I set up my business home office.   I hate to have a messy desk, so that one is easy for me!

Carole, you would absolutely faint if you saw my work space :)  Messy, with papers, notes, pens, etc. strewn everywhere and a cat laying on half of it!  I keep trying to apply some of what I've learned from you...I'll get there.  Thanks for being a good teacher to all of us.

Carole, I love this insight into our work spaces.  If you are ever planning a trip to NC I will hire you!

Carole, Always fascinating to read your blog... This one ring right to me. "Plants are also pure "life force"  and are good in ANY area... "

I love to have planted everywhere around my home (or office) Some grow unbelievable strong other not that much... Sign that something is not right with that spot. I move the plant around the space, looking for brighter light, talk to her, water carefully, put soft music and ... guess what! Plant come back to life and looks happy!

Love the suggestions! Never thought about the office - duh!

Gary, I'm afraid if I lost you, I lost others as well.  A Bagua is a "life station" map of the important areas in your life...if you view it as transparant, you can place it over anything...in this case, the chair being the opening so it would be in the Career area.  Your wealth is your back left hand corner, your partnerships your back right hand corner and so on.  Try it and if I'm not explaining it well, let me know, I'll try another way.

Joan, We pay special attention to home offices---they are sometimes a consult in themselves because they are so vital to our career and wealth.  The room should be done on it's own as well as the desk.

Melissa, Good, I hope it does help you.  I know you are in the middle of a difficult challange but are certainly rising to the occasion!

Carolina, There are many schools on Feng Shui and perspectives which is why you're getting confused.  You are apparently using the Compass method which is excellent but difficult to teach....I am teaching Black Sect and Western Methods by the Bagua.  I focused on the most important areas to give everyone an idea of possible placements...though all the areas should be addressed.

Jeff, Good, I hope you try it.  Just not waking up to a pile of papers in the morning is nice :)

Jo, You can make these enhancements anywhere and many of us generate business on our desks....I always have my clients address it as well as their homes.  And yes, this client is a doll and so happy in her new place!

Carol, Your Home supports your Business...and intentionally keeping the two connected is a good thing to address.  Plus it just makes your office space feel much better!

Cynthia, It is SO nice not to wake up and already feel overwhelmed.  Sometimes I'm exhausted but I do it anyway :)

Kathy, Your new home office is vital to your business....do the whole space when you get to it.  Right now you seem to have your hands more then full :)

Lisa, You want new business, you have to allow room for it.  It's only a desk, I know you can do it :)

Arina, They had a facinating book years ago that I read, The Secret Life of Plants...it speaks of their energy!  You would enjoy it, I think.

Dena, Your office space and desk are vital areas in your career and wealth.  It will help your business.

Carole I learn so much from you on every blog! I guess feng shui is a lifestyle! Would love for you to blog on the entrance of the house and on patios ;)

Carole, THANK YOU for these suggestions.  You are a great teacher :)

(06/04/08 09:48AM) — Kat DeLong, REALTOR

Hi Carole: This is a super post!  I try and keep my desk tidy...and I also (going by my Feng Shui book) have my desk facing the "way" it is supposed to be, according to the book (for me).

Fernando, Many people believe Feng Shui is just about furniture placement...it's so much more.  I hope I've at least sparked an interest in it with some people.

Marzena, Come back and let me know, I hope they work as well.

Kat, Glad to hear it.  I do make sure my desk is cleaned at night and absolutely hate it when things accumulate....and I do notice that business slides off when that happens!

Carole - Great Suggestions - especially the part about clearing up your desk at the end of the day, it's easy to get busy and let that slide when it is so important. I know when I'm stressed sometimes, it can help a lot to just clean my desk.

Interesting. Kind of far-reaching though.

Kevin & Monica, Thank you for your comment.  It makes sense to me (and you're right, cleaning the desk doesn't take that long) and is so worth it!

Huiting, Really?  In what way?

(08/29/08 07:12PM) — Laurie Mindnich

Very interesting. Especially the "cleaning off the desk" thing. On my to-do list!
