Feng Shui New York---Ceremonies and Blessings

Feng Shui New York-Ceremonies and Blessings

Practicing Feng Shui in New Yorkcan sometimes be a challenge. As a Feng Shui Consultant who travels to New York City-Manhattan, Queens and all over Long Island I am sometimes asked by my clients what the purpose of a "Blessing" is.

In Feng Shui Blessings or Space Clearings can be non-denominational. They don't go against any faiths or beliefs. Or they can be done in the Black Sect Method---this is something that is ALWAYS discussed with the client.

We honor all beliefs and practices. So what's the purpose? Some Feng Shui Consultants simply call them Space Clearings, others use the word Rituals and I usually use the word Blessings but they are all one and the same.

Cheryl Marantino of Re:Fresh Re: Design wrote a recent post that caught my eye and I loved and here is an excerpt from it:

"Does it matter that I am not Chinese? I don't think so, anymore than it matters that I only have a little Native American ancestry and I used a smudge stick. Or that I am not Catholic and I buried a St. Joseph's statue in my backyard to sell my house. The rituals that accompany prayers and meditations, in my opinion are man-made ways to help us maintain our focus.

Few can sit quietly in prayer for very long, without hearing surrounding sounds, or other thoughts creeping in. Rituals keep us on task, they offer ceremony to the ordinary. Unless the "doing" of the ritual becomes more important than the "intent"....the kneeling and the clasping of the hands, more important than the prayer, rituals have a place in helping us to participate more fully.

Whether your rituals include lighting candles, burning incense, ringing bells, attending religious services, or simply walking in the woods, the rituals themselves will not bring health, wealth or happiness. It is your intention that gathers the energy. Your positive intentions, followed by positive actions, gather it, and then disperse it where you intended it to go."

When we had asked about these Feng Shui Blessings or Space Clearings years ago we were asked a very important question by our Mentors:

Does the ENERGY put into a Ceremony change the very nature of the event for which you are doing it? Does a Marriage Ceremony change the energy of the relationship? Or a Barmitzvah change the way one feels? How about a Baptism?

It was something to think about. I believe it DOES. It strengthens the Intentions you have put into the occurance that is going on in your life. It "seals" it or cements it-and that's what the purpose is of having these lovely ceremonies.

Don't let the word in Feng Shui of Blessings scare you away. In my New York Feng Shui practice, it seals both the Feng Shui Consultation I have just had with my client and it Intensifies the Energy we are BOTH investing in it.

Carole, who cannot want a blessing of any kind. You bless me right through my computer screen and across the Internet all the time with your words and your positive energy. Thanks.

Carole these type of events are always filled with positive energy...this is one of the reasons they can be so enjoyable!

Hi Carole! Thank you for the inclusion in your post!  I think we are saying the same thing, from differing perspectives.  I don't believe the ACT itself has power of its own.  The participating parties BRING energy to the event.  For example, if I had done all of the blessings/rituals you suggested in my own home, without a shred of  belief that they would be of value, I don't think they would have been.  The fact that I believed that my prayers were more focused due to the use of ritual/blessings gave power to the prayer, made the ordinary, extraordinary.  Is this another way of stating what you are saying, or am I off-base?   BTW, I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed communicating with you here and in e-mail about this!

Hi Carole-What a informative post. Feng Shui is something I didn't know about before but thank to you I'm learning a lot. Thank you for all the great info

Hi Carol,
I believe ceromonies are important---it allows us to be involved instead of just sitting and listening and I think the involvement reinforces positives thoughts.

Again ... some valuable and clear information on the practices of Feng Shui.  Thank you!  I agree that the intent is primary, but if the outside appearance of intent is more for show, then the intent is diminished overall.  I have seen several different ceremonies that are used to impart positive energies/thoughts into a situation - mostly Native American in origin - and it's amazing how simple they are.  All of the pomp and circumstance is waived in favor of simplicity and sincerity.

The rituals that accompany prayers and meditations, in my opinion are man-made ways to help us maintain our focus.

Such a powerful statement that I thought it needed repeating.

Hi Carole..Great Post and Cheryl's re Post on Rituals, Great Explanation.

Cheers, thanks for sharing your thoughts and Cheryl's Post too.

Carole,

I really do see how ceremonies and blessings increase the commitment and further the intentions....creating positive energy and attracting good energy. Thanks so much for explaing this....it caused me to ponder over this deeply.

Jo

Carole--You always bring a new way of  thinking forward. I love to think that sharing in others customs and ideas can change the energy around you and bring good things into your life.

Gary, Thank you.  I even sign off my emails with that word...and mean it!  I do believe in them no matter what kind they are.

Bill, They are....and they do strengthen our intentions and keep us focused. Otherwise I guess we wouldn't bother.

Cheryl, I think you are 100% right and meant to write about it sooner but just didn't get to it.  To me it intensifies what event we are having it for and strengthens it.  Marriages have ceremonies, things that signify they are important.  I loved your post and the way you wrote it...and we've both had some busy times!

Pat, It's not hard, keep learning.  It absolutely does bring such good things into your life--and is one of the few things I know for SURE :)

Cynthia, You're right, we are involved and our energy deepens into what we are focusing on....I love them and they were used all over the world for thousands of years in all cultures.

Carol, You are SO right.....some of my clients ask "Is that it?" and others feel a difference immediately.  I have found that Space Clearings and Blessings do not take long because intentions are strong.

Russel, Thank you, those are Cheryl's words and they ARE very powerful.  I do remember being asked this in school so many years ago and believe that ceremonies do change the energy of an event.

Fred, You're welcome. I found Chery's words important to share.......

Jo, When we were questioning it years ago I do remember the teacher asking US the question right back....we all agreed after some thought that blessings and ceremonies DO change the energy.

Teri, These things when you think about them make sense to me---I don't think people understand Feng Shui "ceremonies" but they do understand a wedding ceremony :)

Hi Carole,

Nice post.... Prayers and blessings are always good. Just one thing: what is the Black Sect Method?

Mary

Carole- There is something quite powerful in rituals, blessings and prayers and the more energy put out the more energy that comes back.

I believe in positive energy.  To perform a ceremony to seal your commitment to positive energy increases awareness and helps one to stay on track afterward.  I think the blessing sounds wonderful

Hi Mary, Those are the ancient beliefs brought from China by Professor Lin Yun.  They involve more Chinese practices such as repeating the Six True Words and using hand mudras.  They also involve a different exterior blessing that has it's roots in ancient Chinese beliefs.  I personally love them but a few of my clients were concerned against doing something against their own religion.

Martha, Thank you, that's exactly what I believe.  They increase and strengthen the intensity of the event.  It also "seals" the Feng Shui intentions and quite often before my clients have made ANY changes, things will start to happen.

Paddy, I do love them and find them powerful no matter how they are practiced.  And for me as well, they make sense to me the same way a wedding ceremony does.
