Sofrito Restaurant White Plains NY Review

Sofrito is the name, Puerto Rican Cuisine Is Their Claim To Fame. If you've been to their offering in NYC then you are probably excited about their latest addition to White Plains. Aesthetically I was very impressed, the color schemes and decor were well thought out. There is ample bar space bar that leads to a downstairs lounge complete with boobalicious latinas serving drinks and smiles. I asn't at all impressed with this feature and felt it was a little inappropriate for the sophisticated vibe they are shooting for.

The staff is friendly, as you would expect the second day open. The menu is not intimidating and very easy to navigate. We ordered three different appetizers for the table which included Clams, Calamari, and the Chunks Of Pork (hands down the best of the three). The clams were uneventful and had too many bits of sand and the calamari was al dente, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The only bad part about the appetizers, besides the clams, was the amount of time it took for them to arrive. We waited at least 45 mins which is somewhat excusable this early in the game. I was hoping this wasn't an indication of how long we would wait for our main course. Shortly after our main course arrived and I have to say my Ropa Vieja was absolutely amazing. My cohorts both ordered the Pork shoulder and were a little turned off by the extreme layer of fat that surrounded the very tender meat, but that's the shoulder. It seemd like alot of work to dig through the fat but they both felt it was worth the time. Our waiter appeared to be attentive but ignored our water glasses all night even after I asked twice for a refill. We all agreed to skip dessert so you'll have to wait for my next visit for that review.

Overall the dining experience was decent...would I eat there again? Yes but not until they are open at least 3 months. The initial opening of a restaurant is where all the kinks get worked out so I will definitely head back and compare it to tonights experience. I definitely see the potential for an incredible vibe here and hope that it all comes together like they have planned.
