Bring a little of the outside in with these
blooming placemats made from real flowers. Materials:
• Clear contact paper
• Flowers and leaves
• Scissors
Directions:
For each placemat, cut two pieces of contact paper about 12 inches x 18 inches.
Peel the backing off one piece and lay it sticky side up on a flat surface. Remove
blossoms and leaves from their stems and arrange them on the sticky side of the
contact paper. Press everything flat. Some flowers will work better if petals are used
individually. Peel the backing off the seconded piece of contact paper and place it sticky
side down over your arrangement. Don't worry about lining the edges up exactly. Press
everything down as flat as possible and trim the edges with scissors or a straight-edge
cutter. Experiment with different colors and combinations of textures. In addition to
flowers, this project works well with leaves. Colors will eventually fade to browns for an
elegant look. If your décor calls for a brighter palette, redo this project as the seasons
change. The placemats look especially nice on outdoor furniture. Used indoors on a kitchen
or dining room table, they add a natural design element.
