The Deaths Of Ian Stone - Movie Review

This flick was awesome!!! The Deaths of Ian Stone begins with a really sinister atmosphere, and continues building up steam with a fascinating set up. Ian Stone is an American living in the UK that continues to find himself hunted and slaughtered by shadow-shifting creatures. Every time he dies he's resurrected in a life which closely resembles his last, almost completely oblivious of his past ‘lives'-almost.

He has brief memories of his past lives - as a college hockey player, a taxi driver, a corporate robot and a junkie, just to name a few. Ian holds on to memories of the lives he's lost, however, and has assembled clues that help clarify his dilemma. First, his former ex-girlfriend turns up in every life in a different way (as neighbor, co-worker, etc.) and at all times ties in to his deaths. Second, Ian meets a dark-cloaked individual whose head spins, twists, and vibrates. This guy isn't human, but a Harvester, a creature who feeds on human fear. There are a bunch of these, and they're all determined to murder Ian on a daily basis.

As time goes on Ian begins to remember faces and circumstances, all leading him to a mind-bending reality.  Once the reasoning behind his "deaths" and "rebirths" are reveled it simply gets better. The acting and cinematography in The Deaths of Ian Stone are all above par for a flick included in the second annual After Dark Horrorfest. Even the digital effects used to make the Harvester ghost/demon things were remarkable. The full-on demons kind of reminded me of a crossbreed from Underworld, and their ‘hand weapons' are sort of Terminator 2 like, but the digital effects that make them up are amazing, and are an successful in covering up of the lowish budget.

Overall the flick is awesome, and was likely the best of the Horrorfest for that year.
