My technicians and I recently did an enormous carpet cleaning job in Scarsdale, NY. It was a new client and the collection of amazing area rugs that she had was almost endless. As with any job, we traveled from room to room to inventory, inspect, and measure each rug. She owned Orientals, antique prayer rugs, and the like.
As we were walking she asked me to look at a particular Stark rug (very expensive) in the living room that she recently had cleaned by another company. She said the rug was in pretty bad shape and as we walked into the room I had to stop myself from gasping. It was indeed a Stark border rug, but it was so wrinkled and buckled that you would have thought it was doing the worm! So when I regained my composure, I said simply that the rug was not cleaned properly. Certain rugs, particularly the type of rug she has, will curl, buckle and wrinkle if they are over-saturated.
An experienced cleaner would have treated this rug with great care. That's why its so important to choose a cleaning company that can identify and treat rare, valuable and hard to clean rugs. Due to the mistake of this other "cleaner" (and I use that term loosely) my client had to have the rug repaired and re-cleaned by us. After we agreed to take on the entire job, we found this guy's mistakes all over the house.
I did a little bit of snooping after my client told me who was responsible for the terrible job and it turns out that this guy wasn't certified or educated in the cleaning field at all. Even worse for my client, she now has to sue him to get her money back. I can't possibly imagine this guy lasting too much longer in this field. Dishonest or incabable people usually get back exactly what they put out there, so hopefully, Karma will return the favor...
