There's NO Feng Shui in The Hamptons?
I was thrilled to hear the Hamptons Home and Garden Show on Long Island, New York is coming up and went to check the details of the show. If you've never been out to The Hamptons, it's a very special place in New York. While I'm not there as often as I am in the City (in the summer be prepared for major traffic jams), the Spring is the perfect time to go and every year a huge event is held there.

It covers the entire weekend and vendors from all over come to show the latest and greatest. The lectures are free and this year cover everything from Specialty Food and Liquor tasting, a live auction and a free fitness evaluation with nutritional advice to a huge array of speakers on almost every subject imaginable. The second day of this event is for "Green" only and while reviewing who's giving lectures and what they are pertaining to, I wondered "Where's the Feng Shui." I happen to know first hand that Feng Shui is VERY popular in the Hamptons and in all parts of it so I'm surprised there is no speaker for it.

Granted, a Feng Shui Consultation in the Hamptons would cost a bit more then a "regular" consultation; going through a Mansion and making suggestions as well as the blessings would take considerably more time then a more "normal" sized home. The architecture of the Hamptons comes in all shapes and sizes of homes, new and old and they all fascinate me. I believe my favorite is situated on Dune Road (or, unfortunately, what is left of Dune Road) with a perfectly ROUND house that has always amazed me.
This wonderful event is in Southampton, a short ride (unless you get caught up in traffic) from The Hampton Bays, my own particular favorite part of the Hamptons since I was young. Ah, the good old days....When weekends rolled around my sister and I would throw a few things in the car and head out to "Hot Dog Beach" in the Hampton Bays. The band (and the dancing) started at 12:00 pm every day...one long day and evening and lots of fun.

Ok, enough reminiscing. If you're out in the New York area and would like to see the show of the season, it's right at the Southampton Elks Lodge and Fairgroundsin Southhampton, Long Island, New York with 17 acres of displays and a drawing for a free $2,500 shopping spree at Waldbaum's supermarket. One of the suggested places to stay (which I can personally recommend) is The Baywatch Motel and Marina at 72 Foster Avenue, Hampton Bays, New York.

Sounds like something I'd want to see ...if out that way ...thanks for sharing Carole.
Carole,
Sounds like a fun event that obviously draws huge crowds. There seems to be a little bit of everything on the agenda, from food tasting to Green living. Hopefully next time around they'll have a Feng Shui presentation, too.
Carole,
I would love to attend this event. Perhaps you can contact the organizers and offer your services for next year's show? I would imagine it's a wonderful place to meet new clients.
Jo
Carole~ This sounds great! If I didn't have showings this weekend, I would try to get to NY~ Let us know how the event turns out.
Carole--Maybe they will call you to speak next year as you are the Feng Shui expert!
What lovely places, you just keep out-doing the previous presentations Carole. I love visiting similar places on the WA coast. However these areas aren't as old as in the east; the history more recent. Something I love about the Pacific is that the sun sets over it; I haven't yet seen an Atlantic sunrise - one day!
Hi Carole,
Fun and informative post
Thanks
All the best!
Carol - It is such a beautiful area. With so many high end properties I am sure the event will be special. I would attend if I was a wee bit closer.
Andrew, You're absolutely right. It's usually not to bad if you start heading out at 3am---get a little jump on the traffic :) But is sure is lovely!
Sally, The Hamptons are something everyone should see. I admit the traffic is awful but it ends up being worth the trip. Talk about Real Estate!
Esko, I'm so surprised, Feng Shui is HUGE in the Hamptons. Surprising that they don't have a qualified consultant at this show.
Jo, The Hamptons are amazing, it's where all the celebrities go during the summer when they abandon their New York City luxury apartments :) I definitely will call and offer my services but it would be one long day (read Andrew's comment :)
Joan, I am going to miss it, unfortunately, I'm working all weekend. I wish I could be there, it would be easier to stay over then drive both days.
Teri, I might just call them. It's funny, I have written several articles for Hamptons.com which is a wonderful online magazine.
Deborah, The sunsets are much more spectacular on the Pacific if you ask me. I've seen some Arizona and California sunsets that I have incredible pictures of, they are absolutely amazing.
Hi Kevin, Another New Yorker, welcome to AR! I'm sure you know the Hamptons if you live in New York :)!
Jennifer, I don't mind the ride if we're moving....just sitting there for HOURS is a little tiring, though. I love the Pow Wows they have every year but it's impossible to get to them anymore :(
What interesting Buildings Carole...next year maybe you should sign up to be a vendor!
When I read your posts I feel as if I've hopped on a plane and traveled to visit you. Thank you :-)
Joan, Believe me I'm thinking about it....I haven't done a home in the Hamptons in at least a year!
Kris, New York is wonderful in the spring and summer....the winters are cold but luckily this year we didn't get much snow. I didn't know there were so many places I wanted to visit until I came on AR :)
