Stone Ridge New York
Stone Ridge is a Hamlet located within the town of Marbletown, nestled between the Shawangunk and the Catskills mountain ranges. With a population of just over 6000 people, it is a small community rich with history. The Main Street Historic District of Stone Ridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Many of the historic buildings that can still be seen today are old colonials and revitalized early American stone houses.
Agricultural Beginings
Early on, the biggest economic contributer to the town was its' agriculture. With a good amount of wide open land, many farms still exist today each represented by a local farm stand where locals and visitors can buy fresh local produce. Stone Ridge is also well know for some of the finest quality apples, small fruits, and sweet corn in the country. Today, Stone Ridge is alive with a thriving small town economy. Shops and restaurants add to the town's historic character each staying true to its' effort in maintaining the local economy by offering local products and foods.
The Real Estate Market
Real Estate in Stone Ridge is at a premium offering some of the most beautiful home sites in New York State. Higher end properties are found on Buck Road, which zigzags up a slope back into the Vly, and can list for more than $1 million. Another sought after area is Leggett Road, located on a tree lined side street right in the center of the hamlet of Stone Ridge, where the old stone homes with have listed as high as $2.5 million. The average days on market for a home listing has grown from around 90 days to over 180. Where is Stone Ridge?
Stone Ridge is about 100 miles from Midtown Manhattan, taking a little less than two hours by car. It can be access by either the New Paltz exit (18) or Kingston (19) off the New York State Thruway. Trailways bus station stops in the neighboring town of Rosendale about 4 miles away. Alternatively, Metro North and Amtrack trains stop in both Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck New York.
