Visit the Library Without Ever Leaving Home - Digital Library Services

Did I ever tell you that we've got a great local library? Suffern Free Library is the best!! Suffern Free Library

Now, if you haven't already done so, you can take advantage of a whole host of online services that the library offers. The services are available at the library or by visiting the libraries online site (www.suffernfreelibrary.org).

So what online services are available?

First and foremost, though it's a service that's been around for awhile, if you sign up and request it, the library will send you a reminder a few days before your books are due. You can then log into your account and renew them online. Since I've been using this service, I seldom (if ever) have any overdue charges on my account. There's just no excuse anymore for forgetting!

Amongst their new digital services:

e-book bq

  • You can now download SONY music for free. Just go to the library's homepage and choose freegal music.
  • You can now also download books, e-audio and e-video for free. Just go to the online library catalog and choose digital downloads.
  • You can reserve your books online and receive a text message when they're ready to be picked up. This one saves you the disappointment of a trip to the library ohly to find that what you've come for is checked out and unavailable.
  • If you're doing important research, you can access some of the libraries databases online to find information on your specialized topics.

I haven't tried out all these online services yet. In fact I only just found out that I could download music for free. But, I'm off to try it out. In these tough economic times (and rising costs of gas prices) all these on-line and FREE services are super welcome.
Of coarse, this won't stop me from visiting one of my favorite places in town - our local library. Instead, I'll just be able to double my visits there by having some of them be digital!
