Cleveland Real Estate Comedy -- A Listing Agent with NO voice mail message

A listing agent with a robotic phone # voice mail message.

I called a listing agent the other day to setup an appointment to show her listing. The response I got on her cell phone was the automated robot message: The # you are trying to reach 123-456-7890 is unavailable...

So...I am left to ponder:

  • Is this the agent's actual cell phone #?
  • Perhaps I mis-dialed so I checked the # I dialed and compared it against the MLS showing instructions.
  • If I leave a voice message on this #, who will pick it up as I have no certainty whose # this is?
  • If I don't leave a message on this # as I am not 100% certain whose # it is, I will then have to keep calling.
  • Did the listing agent (or office admin staff) type in the wrong # in the showing instructions for the listing?
  • In order to eliminate the previous bullet as a concern, I checked the roster in the MLS to see if in fact her cell # was listed in her profile -- which it wasn't and also another time waster on my end.
  • If I were a consumer calling about her listing services, what would I think about this agent's perspective if they can't even personalize a voice mail message?
  • If I were a buyer calling on one of her listings, would I be less inclined to leave a message on a generic answering machine, not knowing if I got the right message.
  • How hard is it to spend 2 minutes and record a custom voice mail message?

Sometimes...I truly wonder how people get by in life. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm the best banana in the bunch (I most certainly an not), but some things just defy common sense and logic.

What say you? Whose on first? Who am I calling? What day of the week is it?

And you want this person handling perhaps the largest financial transaction of your life?

If this were your doctor's office, attorney, CPA and you received this type of answering machine message and you had no idea whose # it is, how would you then view this professional?
