Red White & Boom

red white and boomI go to Red, White & Boom most years… I have never taken my dog. I am surprised when I see dogs and babies at Red White & Boom… I don’t really know much about babies… but I would believe they would startle at loud noises. I know dogs do.

My dog Buddy has gone to the Doo Dah Parade some years to celebrate the 4th of July but he's never to Red White & Boom. I'd never take him.

From Channel 4 tips about dogs and the upcoming holiday.

Remember Red, White & Boom has moved this year. They are setting off the fire works at Vets Memorial.

Maureen,

I wouldn't take my dog to any fireworks display.  She doesn't like it when she is out for a walk and she can hear them in the distance, I can only imagine what she would be like up close.

Don R.

Maureen, we go to the lake, we take our four dogs. Fireworks go off ALL weekend, our dogs hide under the bed, two shake, one is under the covers and won't leave my husbands side.

Buddy our mut is obvilous.

The last few years, when the big display is on a barge, my hubby stays home with the dogs and we watch from the boat.

Although my dog is old and going deaf....he does not like to hear those fireworks go off. He would rather stay inside and hide under the bed.

Buddy doesn't hide.

Everyone's comments reminded me of my dog-in-law back in the 70's and 80's poor old girl, neighborhood kids teased her with fire crackers... and as she got older she'd spend most of the summer in the basement in fear and she ate at least one of the basement stairs.   She was terrified of all the noise in the summer including thunderstorms.  We tried sitting and holding her in the backyard to show her she did not have to spend the summer in the basement.  She just trembled.  I can't remember if she was skittish during storms before the bullies with the firecrackers.

One of my dogs is terrified of thunder - to the point where I'm not able to sleep if there's a thunderstorm in the area at night.  The poor thing just goes nuts and shakes.  She's also not a fan of fireworks, but they're not so bad.

My other dog - couldn't care less.

Don taking the kids to fireworks?  Do they like them?  For some reason fireworks gave me indigestion as a kid.... I like them better as an adult... they are forecasting rain for us.

Maureen - this is the first year that all three kids seem to like the fireworks.  Usually we have to take one of them away from them.  This past weekend we were all out on the boat watching fireworks, and they loved them.  Tomorrow night, we'll go see more.  But, it looks like it may rain here, too.

Maureen, Have a safe 4th. Hopefully your weather is great as well.
