Perry County Auditor's Search Now Online - Hocking County Should Take a Look
Perry County Auditor's Property Search Now Online
Interested parties now have the ability to perform Perry County simple online property searches using a criteria of an owner's name, address, or parcel number. For advanced searches, users can search by numerous attributes including but not limited to dates, sold price, types of deeds, number of bedrooms, and townships. They also have a link to a Weekly Sales Report.
While Hide-A-Way Hills is not in nor around Perry County, I believe this is an excellent example of how a county auditor's web site should present the county records. With the addition of the Perry County site, it allows me to muse about how Hocking County records are difficult for the average user to collect.
If you've ever used the Hocking Auditor's site, you've probably ran into trouble making sense of much of the information provided assuming you made it passed their search page. The current display of a property's record is difficult for many as its often riddeled with cryptic codes and abbreviations. Since the site only allows the address fields to contain 3 characters, plan to scroll through pages to find any 4 digit or more addresses. While not as cumbersome, the owner's search field will only allow you 4 characters to begin your search. When using the site, one must be sure to use the provided buttons on the web pages rather than to use your browser's back button. Hocking County's system doesn't like the back buttons and will restart your entire search which could certainly be somewhat irritating especially if you have already spent time searching for "1239 Any Road". While you can change your printer settings, if you add the inconvenience of all property records being shown in landscape print formats only, I'd be forced to say, the Hocking County Auditor's site is a far cry from being user friendly.
A quick look around the state shows a wide variety of searching capabilities. I believe the Hocking County Auditor's office could improve their services to the interested public by examining some of these sites, and then re-negotiating any contracts that would include the creation and maintenance of their databases along with web access to those databases.
