Businessweek: Columbus top city for new college grads, Posted: 8/4/2010,Columbus Board of REALTORS®
I love posting good news! According to a new ranking by Businessweek, Columbus is ninth in entry-level jobs, unemployment rates and average pay, all factors effecting recent college grads.
A diverse group of employers helped Columbus move up a spot from last year. Large companies include Goodyear, Alliance Financial, Nationwide, American Electric Power, Limited Brands, the Ohio State University and the U.S. government. Defense Supply Center, located in the city, is one of the largest suppliers of spare parts for weapon systems.
Of the 30 cities in the study, the top five are Houston, Washington, Dallas, Atlanta, and Austin, Tex.
The ranking was based on the After College (a website featuring entry-level positions) postings, city unemployment rates, and the average annual pay for all occupations as reported by the U.S. Labor Dept. Wages were adjusted for cost of living, using data from the Council for Community & Economic Research, in Arlington, Va. Salaries rose 2.5 percent, to an average of $44,525, for the 30 cities in the 2010 ranking.
