Looking up when schools open I thought Olentangy Schools opened a week earlier than most Franklin County schools for extra snow days? Not something you usually think about in July... more area, more rural roads, more snow emergencies, or at least more mornings when the roads are not fit for school buses... and maybe Olentangy Schools get out earilier in the spring than most Franklin County Schools. Then I saw City of Delaware and Big Walnuts starting dates and was convinced of my snow day theory... but then why oh why is Buckeye Vally in sink with Franklin County schools?

Our school district never goes back until the first Wed after Labor Day. It's always that day, and that's when it should be. This starting school in August is nonsense, IMHO. Mine is probably one of the very few school districts that does not go back until after Labor day.
When I was a kid that was tradition but even when I was in school in Wisconsin (looooooooooooong long ago) we started going back before Labor Day... I hated back to school ads. I liked the first day of school but I hated summer ending.
I see the back to school ads here sometimes before the 4th of July. I really hate the retailers rushing the seasons so much. We should not see any back to school stuff until the end of July, IMHO. I too used to like the first day of school (being an only child in a neighborhood with no other kids nearby tended to get a little dull by August...LOL) but also hated to see the end of summer.
Now I hate it even more. The summers just fly by and I wish I could have summer vacation like the kids! LOL
as a former retailer (manager and buyer) I bristle at the criticism... :- ) gotta push the merchandise out...
