For many homeowners, one of the greatest joys of the year is decorating for the Holidays. Great pride is taken in having the biggest tree, the music-coordinated lights, the animated Christmas characters in the yard. Even having a professionally staged home in the weeks leading up to the Holidays won’t help you if would-be buyers have to wade through a replica of Santa’s Workshop just to get through your front door. So can all that “Ho Ho Ho” make potential buyers think “No No No?” Here’s how to avoid letting Rudolph ruin your sale:
Keep it traditional. If your home is on the market during a Holiday month and you’re feeling festive, skip the decorating trends and go for a more traditional atmosphere. By trends I mean crazy color combinations, feathers sticking out of the tree or 6′ inflatable pumpkins by the front door. Your fuschia wreath on the front door may be the hottest thing online but to buyers in a different age range or of a more traditional style it could be an instant turn-off.
