McCurtain County Oklahoma Great Thing to Do on a Beautiful Autumn Day - Broken Bow Lake
One of the neatest, greatest, funnest (new word there) things to do in McCurtain County Oklahoma is to take a drive to Broken Bow Lake. Broken Bow Lake is located about 12 miles north of Broken Bow Oklahoma and about 25 miles north of Idabel Oklahoma.
You can grab lunch along the way at numerous restaurants, cafes, or fast food places OR take a picnic lunch if it's a beautiful day like it is here. During the week at the lake is fairly quiet and there are usually plenty of empty picnic tables available to spread your lunch on.
Today, Don, my husband, and I had some business to attend to over in DeQueen, Arkansas so on the way back, we detoured north of Broken Bow Oklahoma and took in the beautiful sites of Broken Bow Lake.
Broken Bow Lake is the deepest lake in Oklahoma with some water depths in excess of 200 ft. It is also one of the clearest lakes in Oklahoma and has the southern most trout stream in the United States in the release waters from the lake - Mountain Fork River.
If you have plenty of time, the Forest Heritage Center Museum is
located in the park, as is the Beavers Bend Wildlife Museum. A restaurant is in the park and numerous ones on 259 on the way. Rental Cabins, RV spaces, tent camping, hiking, water sports, float trips on Mountain Fork and many, many other activities are available. Just visit the Beavers Bend State Office Website.
Today, it was very quiet... which the lake levels are down right now due to this year's drought, but one couple was putting their kayaks in the water at one of the boat ramps..
It's such a beautiful lake and has plenty of wildlife roaming around too.
If you haven't been to Broken Bow Lake lately, you've been missing out. This is the perfect time of year to take a drive that way and enjoy one of our more scenic spots in McCurtain County Oklahoma.
