The Weyerhaeuser Company is a big part of the economy in McCurtain County. During the last few years their trend has been to to sell mills, rarely buying them. Even stating in a filing with the Securiites and Exchange Commission on September 10, 2007: "Ongoing weak market conditions will likely result in further actions by the company to balance supply with demand".
Now Weyerhaeuser has announced that they will purchse an Idabel sawmill owned by Freeman Brothers, Inc. doing busienss as Bibler Brothers Lumber Company.
This is a turn around from their recent direction and seems to be welcomed in the area. Many people believe that the more Weyerhaeuser has invested in the county, the more likely they will be to remain here and since they are one of our largest employers, this purchase announcement is being applauded, especially by their employees.
Of course, things that help the local economy help the real estate market. So I applaud Weyerhaeuser for investing further in our local area.

Amanda, Beavers Bend is beautiful in the fall! The contrast between the pine and hardwoods makes great pics. Thanks for stopping by.

Mike - Yes... It was a surprise to everyone that was not part of the loop. Quite contrary to their recent mode of operation here. Thanks for visiting!
