Huyck's Point is one of those little treasures in Prince Edward County that isn't very well known to people who don't live in the area.
Prince Edward County has a lot of beautiful waterfront and some very nice beaches (among the finest in the province) such as North Beach and Sandbanks Provincial Park, however, this beach is a little more rugged and very rarely do I ever encounter another soul. It really is off the beaten track.
This is a perfect place to let your dog off the leash and let her splash around in the water. I always see evidence that people fish here, but I have never actually ever seen anyone else there (other than the people who are with me). The beach itself stretches around a corner and you can walk quite a fair way down it.
If you enjoy skipping rocks, then this will definitely be the place for you. It takes thousands of years for a rock to wash its way onto shore from the bottom of the lake and only a few seconds to throw it back to see how many times you can make it skip
. Because of the idyllic hours that I have accumulated at Huyck's point I am now an expert rock skipper. Everyone has to have a talent or two. This now happens to be one of mine. I'm trying to think what my other talent may be.
Prince Edward County is really becoming a hot spot for refugees from the Greater Toronto Area who are tired of the hours long trek to get to the Muskokas just to spend half a weekend in the cottages that they paid way too much for. Accordingly, the County now offers vinyards, wineries, boutique restaurants and shopping, live theatre productions to go along with the breathtaking scenery. The big bonus for many is that it's all within a 2 hour drive of Toronto.
I have a feeling that Huyck's point will be one of those places that the tourists and weekenders won't discover. I'm happy with that because then I'd have to find somewhere else where the dog can run around and splash around in the water.
