Port Perry is the primary urban centre and heart of Scugog Township. Scugog's Municipal offices are located in Port Perry as is Lakeridge Health's 24 bed Hospital, complete with helicopter pad. Close by are The Nonquon Wildlife Preserve, access to the Oak Ridges Moraine Trails and the Great Blue Heron Casino. Port Perry serves as a hub for many small communities in the Scugog area, such as Greenbank, Raglan, Ceasarea, Blackstock, Nestleton, and a few others

Port Perry is a four season destination that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Situated on the shore of Lake Scugog Port Perry offers access to the Trent Severn Waterway and Canal system. Not limited to just summer boaters and fishing in the winter the lake is dotted with Ice huts and skidoos. While fishing, boating or skidooing and ice fishing is not for everyone there is always the numerous Golf courses in the area and of course for those who like to shop there are some wonderful clothing stores, bookstores, antique shops and galleries in the picturesque Victorian-era downtown. There are a number of festivals and events throughout the year that include the Mississauga First Nation PowWow, the Highlands of Durham Games, the Dragon Boat Races, rowing regattas and Street Fest. The annual fair on Labour Day weekend, has been running for over 100 years. On the cultural side there is an active Arts Council and Performing Arts Centre

Port Perry is located in close proximity to Toronto, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa and Bowmanville to the south with Uxbridge to the west Peterborough and Lindsay to the north and east. Located with in an hour and a half of most of south central Ontario's Major urban centres Port Perry is the perfect day trip or stay-cation destination with its well maintained Victorian-era buildings, and specialty shops overlooking Lake Scugog, the beach and park.
