There is a new mining going on in Phoenix, Arizona. It use to be gold and other minerals that attracted pioneers to the West to strike it rich. Well, we now have URBAN MINING. We have people literally stealing the entire AC unit from the house in exchange to sell the copper and other metals to the local junkyards. This is becoming quite the problem across Phoenix, Arizona. How do I know? I have personally had three AC units stolen from three different properties in the last two weeks. How do you explain that to the owner?
A typical AC unit costs between $2,000 to $5,000 per unit including installation. It takes less than fifteen minutes for them to still an entire AC unit located on the ground. Roof top AC units are also being stolen from people in the middel of the night. They back a truck up to the roof. Then, they lay an aluminum ladder next to the AC unit. Finally, four guys slide the AC unit down the aluminum ladder into the back of the truck. Voila, they have struck gold in their minds.

One AC professional tech informed me to paint the copper a blue color. Then, this prevents them from selling the copper at the metal yard. This has become a whole new industry over night. The local police state that copper thieves have increased across the Valley since people have to find illegal ways to make money to feed their families.
