I have been extremely busy this month... and unfortunately sometimes what we have to make a choice to give up, is what we value most.
For me, this has been the case.
My Family time is so important to me. I have been alone for long periods of my life, and for almost twelve and one half years now, I have been with the person that I want to be with and spend time with more than anything else in the world... my wife.
We had a mini-vacation about a month ago and re-discovered the fun we regularly had playing board games... We could lock ourselves up for a weekend, make a pot of tea and settle down for some serious Scrabble, Upwords, Blokus, Yahtzee (full card, of course), and Cribbage, to name just a few of the many games we love to play.
Seven and a half year ago, we adopted our son, Alec, and that changed our lives... Spending quality family time is also very dear to me. We were supposed to go and see Puss 'n Boots (the cat from Shrek) in IMAX 3D last weekend, and I had to postpone, and now it looks like we will not be able to see the movie this week also...
If I could have an extra 3+ hours a week, they would be spent alone... with my wife, and/or, with my wife and son... I would be deliriously happy if I could manage 1/2 day alone with my wife a week and 1/2 day alone with my wife and son each week.
My fondest memories of growing up were those very moments spent with my family, and the fondest memories of my marriage are those very moments spent alone with Helen.

I am thankful that Active Rain and Docusign sponsored this contest, and I read an entry that spurred me on to writing this blog... because it has reminded me that since I do not have these "extra" hours, I must make the time to enjoy my wife, and enjoy my wife and son... our time is not guaranteed, a sad fact that again has been made very clear to me recently... and we must make the time to do the things that should be important in our lives...
