Eco-Energy Program is Back!! Learn about the grants and incentives

Home owners can still take advantage of the Eco-Energy grants offered by the Federal and Provincial governments by March 31, 2012 if your pre-retrofit audit and upgrades are completed before that date.

The audits range in cost, but are generally $360 for hte pre-retrofit audit and $175 for the post-retrofit audit.

The initial audit takes about 1.5hours and during the process, the home will be depressurized using a blower door and readings will be taken to determine how much air the home may be loosing. The Energy Audit advisor will also review furnace, central air, insulation, windows and doors toilets, ventilation, air sealing and water heating. There are also Ontario Power Authority grant available when working with an authoized heating contractor.

The final audit takes about 45 minutes to review upgrades completed and to take a final pressure test.

The Provincial government will rebate $150 after the initial audit and the Federal government takes care of all other grants.

An example of a grant for going from conventional furnace to a 95% efficient furnace with an energy efficient motor is around $790 for Federal incentive, $250 OPA, amounts to a total of $1,040.

Not only will the grants make it a worthwhile process, it's incentive to pu a few upgrades together.
