Woodstock's Mayor Michael Harding announced the following today:
WOODSTOCK - August 9, 2007, The Federal and Provincial Government today announced more than $173 million in funding will be spent to create more than 2,700 new affordable housing units in 41 towns and cities across Ontario under the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program Agreement.
Four projects have been announced recently for Oxford County, three in Woodstock and one in Tillsonburg totaling $5.38 million.
The project sponsored by the Salvation Army Community Church and Anchorage Homes in Woodstock has been expanded to include 28 affordable units, an additional 14 units announced today, bringing the contribution to $1.68 million. In addition, the project sponsored by Homestead Christian Care was today increased by an additional 12 units to a total of 27 and a total funding contribution of $1 million.
These additional commitments include the previously announced $2.1 million for 30 units of the 50 proposed for 62 Mill Street in Woodstock and the $600,000 12-unit project at Queen and Bridge Street in Tillsonburg, sponsored by the Tillsonburg Non-Profit Housing Corporation and which will be occupied by seniors.
Previous announcements include $480,000 for the 16-unit project on John Street Ingersoll and affordable housing support of $729,000 for 24 of the 39 units presently being built on Dundas Street in Woodstock.
Affordable housing grants total $6,590,000. Additional applications are in early development.
