Breaking down Central Oregon - Bend

Bend, Oregon

BEND, OREGON

With one of the highest growth rates in the state, Bend is fast becoming the city of choice for Central Oregon. Located in Deschutes County, Bend has a population of about 75,000. The city was supported for years from the timber industry and resulting mills. Within the last 20 years, it has become more of a destination and resort area, largely in part to the tremendous recreation offered here. From caving, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, rock climbing, rafting, golfing, camping as well as enjoying the beautiful scenery, Bend has it all. Not to mention the fantastic snowmobiling, downhill and cross country skiing available at the famed Mt. Bachelor. It would seem that a short drive in any direction leads you on a new adventure. Many newcomers flock to this area for the fantastic weather, which consists of mostly sunny days with little rain. The winters however can be somewhat harsh with days of snow or freezing temperatures. There's a joke in Bend that if you don't like the weather, stay awhile and it will change. Although kinda funny, it really is true. I remember one day in July several years ago where it literally rained, shined, hailed, and snowed all in a period of 4 hours. It can happen, though seldom does.

Kelli, that is a very nice view. Looks like the kind of township you could easily retire in.
