Meet Jim and Robin Condie, the owners of the Clackamas Great Harvest Bread Company located in the Clackamas Promenade on Sunnyside Ave. This great family brought in the young women’s group of our church which my daughter is a part of.

Their goal today was to teach the girls how to make bread and teach them about grains and what they can do for our bodies. Wow, I learned a lot while I was there and was amazed at what the Condies have to do each and every day to bring us this awesome tasting bread.

I was amazed to find out that an unbroken wheat berry will last forever. They have found 3000 year old wheat berries and planted them and they grew. (How cool is that?) But, there are 3 parts to the wheat berry that are similar to an egg. The shell is wheat bran, the inner part is white flower and then the center is the wheat germ. (Did not know that)

So, the girls started out by rolling dough for rolls they were going to make themselves. Then once they were done, we got to see what actually went in to the process of making bread at the Clackamas Great Harvest Bread Company.

Now, I thought the dough came in frozen each day, but much to my surprise, they actually mill the wheat right there in the store. Then from there they mix the different kinds of dough that makes all the breads they sell, roll them by hand and then cook them up in their giant oven.

They do this all before they open the doors, just so we can have fresh bread. Now, they repeat this throughout the day and wow, it takes some work! Not only by the people that work there, but by Mother Nature.

So, come by the Great Harvest Bread Company in Clackamas and enjoy some fresh made bread daily as it will be some of the best bread you have ever had.
